Quick answer

What is an SEG fabric lightbox?

An SEG lightbox is an aluminium frame lit by LEDs, with a printed fabric graphic that has a thin silicone strip sewn around its edge. The strip presses into a groove in the frame, pulling the fabric tight. The result is a frameless-looking, evenly lit image that can be changed without tools.

Fabric lightboxes have replaced many acrylic backlit panels in shops, malls and showrooms because they are lighter, larger and quicker to update. The print is dye-sublimated onto a backlit textile, so colours look rich and there is no glare from a glossy face. Very large sizes are possible because fabric folds for transport, then stretches flat once tensioned into the frame.

Most of the cost sits in the frame and the LEDs, which you buy once. The graphic is the part you change. For a retailer running seasonal campaigns, that means each new look is a fabric print, not a new sign. We build frames to the exact wall size, print the fabric, sew the silicone edge and install the unit with its power supply.

Types

Fabric SEG Lightboxes we make

  1. Wall-mounted single-sided

    Shop walls, showrooms, lobbies

A slim frame fixed flat to the wall, lit from behind or from the edges. The most common format for retail and showroom feature walls.

  2. Double-sided freestanding

    Malls, open-plan stores, events

A deeper frame on feet or a base, with a graphic on each side. Works as a room divider or a display in open floor areas.

  3. Hanging lightboxes

    Large stores, atriums, exhibitions

Double-sided frames suspended from the ceiling on cables, visible across a store or hall from both directions.

  4. Exhibition stand walls

    Trade shows, recurring exhibitions

Large modular frames joined to form a lit backwall for a trade stand, packed flat and reused show after show with new fabric.

  5. Recessed or built-in boxes

    Joinery, niches, shop windows

Frames set into joinery or a wall niche so only the lit graphic shows. Popular in clinics, hotels and window displays.

Choosing well

Designing for an SEG lightbox

  • Pick backlit for big frames

Edge lighting is efficient on slim, smaller frames. For tall or wide boxes, a backlit LED layout gives more even brightness across the middle of the graphic.

  • Keep key content off the edge

Part of the fabric wraps into the groove. Keep text and logos well inside the visible area, and extend background colour into the bleed so the edges look clean.

  • Design for light, not paper

Colours look brighter when lit. Large areas of pure white can glare in a dim store. We test print critical colours on backlit fabric before running the full graphic.

  • Plan joins on very large walls

Very wide graphics may need more than one panel or a welded fabric seam. We place joins where the design can hide them, such as through a background area.

  • Think about swaps up front

If you will change graphics often, choose a frame size you can reuse across campaigns and keep a standard template so designers always work to the right dimensions.

Wall-mounted backlit SEG

A single-sided backlit frame fixed to the wall gives a bright, even image. Choose a size you can keep for future campaigns so only the fabric changes.

UAE conditions

SEG lightboxes in UAE venues

  • Mall and landlord approvals

Malls and retail landlords usually have design guidelines for lit displays and shopfronts. We prepare drawings for submission and confirm the current requirement with the mall or venue.

  • Fire-rated fabric for exhibitions

Exhibition venues and many malls typically ask for fabric with a flame-retardant certificate. We use certified backlit textile and can supply the documentation for your submission.

  • Window positions and sun

A lightbox behind a glass shopfront facing afternoon sun can look dull by day. Consider a brighter LED layout or position the box away from direct glare.

  • Bilingual campaigns

Many retailers run separate Arabic and English graphics or a combined layout. Since fabric swaps are fast, you can rotate language versions or Ramadan and Eid campaigns easily.

How we work

From brief to installed fabric seg lightboxes

  1. 1

    Measure and design

We measure the wall or space, agree frame size and depth, and send a graphic template with safe and bleed areas.

  2. 2

    Frame build

Aluminium profiles are cut, joined and fitted with LED modules and a driver in our Ajman factory.

  3. 3

    Print and sew

Your artwork is dye-sublimated onto backlit fabric, then the silicone edge strip is sewn around the perimeter.

  4. 4

    Light test

Each graphic is fitted to its frame and lit before delivery to check tension, colour and even brightness.

  5. 5

    Install and hand over

We fix the frame, connect power and show your team how to remove and refit the fabric.

FAQ

Fabric SEG Lightboxes: common questions

How do you change the graphic in an SEG lightbox?

You change an SEG graphic by pulling the silicone edge out of the frame groove, removing the old fabric and pressing the new one in around the edge. No tools are needed. For a medium wall unit it usually takes a few minutes. Starting at the corners and working along each side keeps the tension even.

Is a fabric lightbox brighter than an acrylic lightbox?

A fabric lightbox is usually as bright as an acrylic one, with more even light and less glare. Backlit fabric diffuses the LEDs well, so there are no hotspots. Acrylic faces can look glossier and reflect store lights, while fabric gives a matt, rich finish.

Can SEG fabric be washed?

Yes. Dye-sublimated SEG fabric can usually be washed gently on a cool cycle with mild detergent, then hung to dry and lightly ironed on the reverse if needed. Check the specific fabric's care notes first, and remove the graphic carefully so the silicone edge is not stretched.

How big can an SEG lightbox be?

SEG lightboxes can be made very large, often several metres wide, because the frame can be joined in sections and the fabric can be seamed. The practical limits are access into the building, wall structure and how the fabric is joined. We advise on the best split for your space.

Are SEG lightboxes suitable for outdoor use?

Standard SEG lightboxes are designed for indoor use. The fabric, LEDs and drivers are not sealed against rain, dust and UAE summer heat. For outdoor positions we recommend a sealed outdoor lightbox or backlit sign instead, or a fully enclosed display behind glass that is protected from direct sun.

What affects the cost of an SEG lightbox?

Cost depends on frame size and depth, single or double sided, lighting type, the number of graphics, and fixing method. Replacement fabric graphics cost much less than the first full unit. Hanging and recessed installations add some installation work. Share your sizes for a free quote, usually within 24 hours.
