    Size Guide

Billboard face size versus road visibility distance

Unipole face size should be matched to the road speed and viewing distance at your site. A billboard that is legible from 300m on a 60 km/h road is illegible at 500m on a 120 km/h highway. These are our recommended minimum face sizes per road type in the UAE — based on the 3-second legibility rule at road speed.

All structural steel fabricated in our Ajman factory. We engineer, weld, galvanise, print, and install every unipole ourselves — no structural subcontracting.

    Single pole unipole billboard Dubai
    Classic Single-Pole Unipole

One structural steel pole — circular hollow section (CHS) or rectangular hollow section (RHS) — supporting a single large-format billboard face on a cantilever arm. The most common unipole format in the UAE. Face sizes typically 6×3m up to 12×4m. Single-sided or back-to-back double-sided cabinet. Hot-dip galvanised, powder-coated pole.

    V-shape unipole billboard Dubai
    V-Shape Unipole

Single pole with two billboard faces angled in a V-shape — each face visible to traffic approaching from a different direction. Maximises visibility at interchanges, roundabouts, and road junctions where traffic flows from multiple directions. Each face can carry separate creative. Standard on major Dubai arterial roads and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

    Intersections · Dual-direction traffic
    Mega unipole spectacular billboard Dubai
    Mega Unipole & Spectacular

Extra-large format unipoles with face sizes above 15×5m — used for premium highway positions on Sheikh Zayed Road, Emirates Road (E611), and key interchanges. Structural engineering is mandatory; foundation depth can exceed 4m. Multiple pole or gantry support system. Catwalk and service platform built in for safe face-change access.

    Tri-vision rotating unipole billboard Dubai
    Tri-Vision Rotating Unipole

Billboard face made up of triangular louvres that rotate to reveal three sequential advertising faces on a cycle — tripling the advertising inventory on a single structure. Motorised mechanism with programmable dwell time. Each face can carry a different advertiser or campaign. Popular for high-value single-site locations where maximum revenue per structure is needed.

    LED digital unipole billboard Dubai
    LED Digital Billboard Structure

Unipole structure designed and built to carry an LED digital screen panel (screen not supplied by us — we build the structural frame, pole, and cable management system). The structural specification for LED screens differs from static billboards due to the screen's dead weight and wind-drag characteristics. We engineer and fabricate the structural system; the LED module supplier installs the screen.

    Construction hoarding unipole Dubai
    Construction Hoarding Unipoles

Temporary single-pole hoarding signs for construction sites and development plots — larger than a standard pylon, smaller than a full highway unipole. Typically 6–10m pole height with a 4×3m or 6×3m printed ACM or flex-face panel. Used for developer project branding visible from the main road. Removable structure — designed to be relocated at plot completion.

    UAE Regulatory Framework

What you must know before installing a unipole in Dubai.

The UAE's outdoor advertising regulatory environment is one of the most complex in the region. Unipoles on or near highways involve multiple overlapping authority jurisdictions — a structure approved by DM may still be rejected by RTA, and a structure on a free zone plot requires a completely different permit chain. We have navigated this process for dozens of unipole installations across the UAE.

    01
Land ownership NOC is required first. Before any authority submission, you need a NOC from the landowner confirming consent for the structure. If the plot is leased, you need the freeholder's NOC — not the tenant's. This is often the longest-lead-time item in the approval chain.
    02
RTA NOC comes before DM permit. In Dubai, RTA approval is a prerequisite for DM to issue the sign permit for any structure within the road reservation. Submitting to DM first wastes time — we submit RTA first and DM in parallel where possible.
    03
Foundation depth is authority-prescribed. DM specifies minimum foundation depths for unipoles based on pole height and face area — not just structural calculation. We design to the more conservative of authority minimum and structural requirement.
    04
Face dimensions are capped by zone. DM and RTA limit maximum face sizes by road classification and zone. A face size permissible on one road may be refused on another. We check the applicable limits for your specific plot location before starting the design.
    05
Annual permit renewal. Most unipole permits in Dubai are issued annually — not permanently. Renewal requires the structure to remain in compliance with any updated DM guidelines. We can advise on renewal requirements when your permit approaches expiry.
    Authority Approvals

Every NOC and permit required — we handle all of them

Unipole hoardings are the most heavily regulated outdoor sign type in the UAE. Every structure requires multiple authority approvals before a single piece of steel is installed. We manage the full process.

    Dubai Municipality (DM)
Primary sign permit for all unipole structures in Dubai. DM reviews structural drawings, foundation design, face size, and setback from road boundary. We submit via the DM Invest portal and follow up through to approval. Typical timeline: 6–12 weeks from submission.
RTA — Roads & Transport Authority
Any unipole within the RTA road reservation requires RTA NOC before DM permit is issued. On major roads and highways in Dubai, the reservation extends 30–60m from the road centre-line. RTA reviews location, pole height, face size, and sight-line impact on traffic. We prepare RTA-format submission drawings and coordinate between RTA and DM.
    Sharjah & Ajman Authorities
Unipoles in Sharjah are approved by Sharjah Municipality and may require Sharjah City Municipality Roads Department NOC for highway-adjacent sites. In Ajman, Ajman Municipality issues the permit. We handle both authorities and are familiar with their specific submission requirements and processing timelines.
    Structural Engineer (Licensed UAE)
All unipole structures in the UAE require stamped structural engineering drawings from a UAE-licensed engineer — covering pole sizing, foundation depth and diameter, anchor bolt specification, and wind-load calculations per UAE wind zone. We engage our structural engineering partner for every unipole project; drawings are included in our quote.

    Materials

How a UAE unipole is built to last

A unipole must withstand 50+ years of UAE wind, UV, heat, and occasional extreme weather events. Every material specification is driven by the site's exposure classification — not a generic product catalogue default.

    CHS Steel
    Pole
Circular hollow section (CHS) structural steel — 10mm–20mm wall thickness depending on pole height and wind zone. Hot-dip galvanised (not painted) to BS EN ISO 1461 — internal and external. Powder-coated over galvanising for colour finish. Tapered from base to top to reduce weight aloft while maximising base moment capacity.
    Concrete Pile
    Foundation
Reinforced concrete pile — typically 600mm–1,200mm diameter, 2.5m–5m deep depending on pole height and soil bearing capacity. Cast with the anchor bolt assembly (baseplate bolts) embedded in the pile head. Cured minimum 28 days before pole erection. Soil investigation report required for piles deeper than 3m.
    RHS Steel Frame
    Cabinet
Rectangular hollow section steel billboard frame — welded and galvanised. Houses the face panel and provides the fixing rail for flex-face keder or ACM panel clips. Includes access catwalk and safety railing on structures above 6m face area (required for maintenance access).
    Flex-Face PVC
    Face
900gsm–1,050gsm PVC-coated polyester — the industry standard for UAE billboard faces. UV-printed with solvent or UV-cured inks. Tensioned in a keder rail around the cabinet perimeter — pulls the face drum-tight with no wrinkles. Replaceable from the catwalk without crane. Typical outdoor life 2–3 years before UV fade.
    ACM Panel
    Face
4mm aluminium composite material — direct-printed or with applied vinyl graphics. More rigid than flex-face and better suited to illuminated (frontlit) billboard installations. Does not wrinkle or loosen in UAE heat. Used on smaller face sizes (up to 6×3m) where the ACM sheet dimensions can be accommodated without visible joins.

    05
    10-year structural warranty
Full warranty on the steel pole, foundation connection, and billboard frame. 3 years on face panel and print. We return to repair any structural defect within the warranty period — no argument, no charge.
    How We Work

From brief to standing unipole in 7 steps

    01
    Site assessment & feasibility
We visit the plot, confirm the proposed unipole position and setback from road boundary, check for underground services and overhead cables, photograph for authority submission, and assess soil conditions for foundation scoping. Free across Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman.
    02
    Structural design & engineering
Our structural engineer sizes the pole, foundation, and frame based on the face dimensions, pole height, and UAE wind zone for the site location. Stamped drawings are produced for authority submission. You see the 3D structural model before we go to authorities.
    03
    Authority NOC submissions
We submit simultaneously to RTA (where required) and DM — or to the relevant authority for Sharjah/Ajman sites. We follow up, respond to technical queries, and track each submission to approval. We keep you updated on status without you having to chase.
    04
    Steel fabrication
CHS pole, cantilever arm, billboard frame, access catwalk, and all structural steelwork are fabricated in our Ajman factory after permit approval. Hot-dip galvanising and powder coating are done before delivery to site.
    05
    Foundation excavation & pour
We excavate to the engineered depth, install rebar cage and anchor bolt assembly, pour concrete, and cure for a minimum of 28 days. No pole erection before full curing — a non-negotiable for structure safety.
    06
    Pole erection & face installation
Crane-lifted pole is bolted to the foundation baseplate. Billboard frame is assembled and the printed flex-face or ACM panel is installed and tensioned from the catwalk. LED lighting fitted if specified. Electrical connection tested.
    07
    Completion & authority sign-off
We submit completion photographs and as-built drawings to the authority for file closure. Permit certificate, structural warranty document, and maintenance log are handed to you. Site is reinstated and cleared of all construction debris.

    FAQ

    Common questions about unipole hoardings

    • A typical unipole permit in Dubai requires RTA NOC (4–8 weeks) followed by DM sign permit (4–8 weeks) — total authority approval timeline is typically 8–16 weeks from first submission, depending on the location, any authority queries, and how quickly the landowner NOC is obtained. We begin fabrication after permit approval to avoid any risk of having to modify a structure. Plan for a minimum of 20–24 weeks from project start to installed unipole.
    • Yes, but you need both the tenant's consent (as the lessee) and the freeholder's NOC — authorities require the landowner's approval, not just the current occupier. If the plot has a developer or master developer above the freeholder, their NOC may also be required. We prepare the NOC letters and coordinate with all parties — this is often the longest-lead-time item in the approval process.
    • A pylon sign is typically 4–12m tall with a relatively small sign cabinet (for tenant identification or commercial complex naming). A unipole is a much taller structure (8–20m+) with a large-format billboard face (6×3m to 18×6m+) designed for advertising visibility from highways and fast-moving traffic. Pylons are permitted under DM standard sign permit; unipoles typically require RTA NOC and a more involved DM process.
    • Foundation depth depends on pole height, face area (wind load), soil bearing capacity, and authority minimum requirements. A 10m pole with a 6×3m face typically needs a foundation 2.5–3m deep and 800–1,000mm diameter. A 15m pole with a 12×4m face may need 3.5–4.5m depth and 1,000–1,200mm diameter. Our structural engineer calculates the exact specification — we do not use generic depths.
    • Flex-face PVC billboard panels typically show noticeable UV fade after 2–3 years of direct UAE sun exposure. ACM panels with UV-printed graphics last 3–5 years before fading. Permit renewal may also require an updated face. We stock your artwork file and can produce and install a replacement face in 5–7 working days — including site visit to verify face dimensions before printing.
    • Illumination is optional — many UAE unipoles are non-illuminated and rely on strong daylight visibility. For sites near highways that carry significant night traffic (SZR, E611), frontlit LED flood-lights or LED strip washing the face significantly increases 24-hour effectiveness. We include lighting in our quote where we recommend it based on the site's traffic patterns. Illuminated unipoles require an electrical connection from the plot and may require DEWA approval.
    • The above-ground steelwork (pole, arm, frame) can be dismantled, transported, and re-erected at a new site — subject to the new site's authority approvals and a structural assessment of whether the existing foundation design suits the new site conditions. The concrete pile foundation cannot be moved — a new foundation is required at the new site. We advise on relocation feasibility on a case-by-case basis.
    • No — we design, engineer, permit, and install the physical structure and print the billboard face. Media buying (selling advertising space on the structure to third-party advertisers) is a separate commercial activity managed by outdoor media companies or directly by the structure owner. We can advise on the structure specifications that best suit a multi-advertiser tri-vision or digital setup if you plan to monetise the billboard.
