Quick answer

Why has my illuminated sign stopped working?

The most common cause in the UAE is a failed LED power supply, often after long exposure to summer heat inside a poorly ventilated sign. Other causes are water getting into connections, a tripped timer or breaker, and individual LED modules failing. A technician can usually find the fault on site with a basic electrical check.

Signs here work hard. A fascia facing west can sit in direct sun for hours, the inside of a lightbox gets far hotter than the street, and dust settles on every ledge. Over a few summers that shows up as dark sections, yellowed faces, peeling vinyl and rust streaks under fixings. Most of these faults are repairable without replacing the whole sign, if they are caught before water or heat causes more damage.

We repair and maintain the signs we have made and installed. A technician visits, finds the cause rather than only the symptom, and tells you what needs doing now and what can wait. For businesses with several branches or a building full of signs, a preventive maintenance contract spreads the work into planned visits instead of emergency call-outs.

Types

Maintenance & Repair we make

  1. LED module and power supply replacement

    Dark letters, flickering lightboxes

Finding failed modules or drivers, replacing them with matched parts where possible, and improving ventilation or driver position if heat caused the failure.

  2. Electrical troubleshooting

Signs that trip or stay off

Tracing faults through timers, breakers, cables and connections, including water ingress and loose terminals, with work carried out by qualified electricians.

  3. Lightbox face and vinyl replacement

    Faded faces, rebrands, new offers

New printed, vinyl or acrylic faces for faded or cracked lightboxes, and replacement of peeling or sun-bleached vinyl lettering and graphics.

  4. Neon flex and signboard repair

    Decorative neon, damaged boards

Repairing or replacing failed neon flex runs, broken panels, damaged returns and cracked acrylic, matching the original look as closely as the materials allow.

  5. Loose letter and structural fixing repairs

    Signs at height, coastal sites

Re-securing letters, brackets and frames, replacing corroded fixings with stainless, and checking that heavy signs are safe on their supports.

  6. Cleaning, repainting and preventive contracts

    Multi-branch brands, building owners

Sign cleaning, touch-up or full repainting and refinishing, plus scheduled maintenance contracts with inspection, cleaning and minor repairs on agreed visits.

Choosing well

Getting the most from sign maintenance

  • Treat loose letters as a safety issue

A letter hanging from one fixing above a walkway can fall in the next strong wind. If you see movement, gaps or tilted letters, keep people clear below and call for an inspection rather than waiting for the next scheduled visit.

  • Fix the cause of LED failures

Replacing a burnt driver in the same sealed, sun-baked box usually means another failure next summer. We look at driver rating, location and ventilation, and suggest moving drivers to a cooler, accessible position where possible.

  • Repair or replace: compare honestly

Repairs make sense when the structure and housing are sound. When the face is brittle, the frame is rusted and the wiring is old, a new sign may cost less over time. We give you both options where it is close.

  • Base frequency on exposure, not a template

A sign inside a mall needs less attention than one on a dusty highway frontage or a seafront. Contract visit frequency is agreed per site, based on sign type, height, exposure and how critical the sign is to trading.

  • Know what a preventive contract covers

Contracts usually include scheduled inspections, cleaning, electrical checks and minor repairs, with parts and larger works quoted separately. The scope, visit schedule and how call-outs are handled are written into the agreement before it starts.

UAE conditions

Why signs fail in UAE conditions

  • Heat and LED drivers

Drivers have temperature limits, and the inside of a closed sign in summer can exceed them. Heat is a common reason drivers fail early here, which is why ventilation and driver placement matter during repairs.

  • UV fading and yellowing

Strong sun fades printed faces and vinyl, and lower-grade acrylic can yellow or turn brittle. Reds and other saturated colours usually fade first. Replacement faces use UV-resistant materials and laminates.

  • Failed sealing and humidity

Old sealant shrinks and cracks, letting in dust, rain and coastal humidity. Moisture in connections causes tripping and corrosion. Resealing joints and cable entries is part of most repair visits.

  • Corroded fixings near the coast

Salt air rusts mild steel screws and brackets, leaving stains and weakening the sign. We replace corroded fixings with stainless where practical and check whether mixed metals are causing galvanic corrosion.

How we work

From brief to installed maintenance & repair

  1. 1

    Report the fault

Send photos, the location and what you have noticed, such as dark letters, flicker, tripping or movement.

  2. 2

    Site inspection

A technician checks the sign safely, isolates power where needed and identifies the cause of the fault.

  3. 3

    Repair quote

You receive a clear scope covering what must be fixed now, what can wait and any refurbishment options.

  4. 4

    Repair work

Parts are replaced on site or the sign is taken to our Ajman workshop for larger repairs and refinishing.

  5. 5

    Test and report

We test lighting and fixings, clean up and send photos, with notes on anything to watch at the next visit.

FAQ

Maintenance & Repair: common questions

Which signs do you repair and maintain?

We repair and maintain signs that Bayan Signage made and installed. A technician checks the construction, lighting and fixings, then tells you what can be repaired. Some parts, such as specific LED modules or face materials, may need to be matched rather than replaced like for like. We explain any difference before you approve.

How often should a sign be maintained?

It depends on the sign and where it is. An indoor mall sign may only need an inspection once or twice a year, while an exposed roadside or seafront sign usually needs more frequent checks and cleaning. We agree the frequency per site based on exposure, height and how important the sign is to your business.

Can you replace only the dead LEDs in my sign?

Usually, yes. We can replace failed LED modules or sections without rebuilding the sign. We try to match brightness and colour temperature so the repaired area does not look different. If many modules are failing across the sign, a full LED replacement often gives a more even result and a longer life.

What should I do if a sign letter is loose?

Keep people away from the area below it and call for an inspection quickly. A loose letter at height can fall in strong wind. We secure or remove it safely, check the other fixings on the sign, and replace corroded or failed fixings so the problem does not come back elsewhere on the same sign.

What does a preventive maintenance contract include?

A preventive maintenance contract usually includes scheduled inspections, cleaning, electrical checks and minor repairs at agreed intervals. Each visit ends with a condition report. Larger repairs, replacement parts and refurbishment are normally quoted separately. The scope, number of signs, visit frequency and call-out arrangements are agreed in writing before the contract starts.

What affects the cost of a sign repair?

Cost depends on the fault, the parts needed, the sign's height and access, and whether the work can be done on site or needs workshop time. A driver change at shopfront height is a smaller job than repairing letters on a high facade. Send photos and the location for a free quote, usually within 24 hours.
