Lightbox repair usually means replacing the face. A lightbox is a cabinet of aluminium extrusion or folded galvanised steel with lights inside and a translucent face on the front. The cabinet can last fifteen years or more; the face cannot. UV sun yellows acrylic and fades inks, flex stretches and sags, and a stray ball or a shamal gust cracks a panel in seconds. New tenants inheriting a landlord's fascia, brands refreshing their colours and owners whose sign simply looks tired all come to us for the same job: a new face, made to the frame that is already there.
Most of the difference between a good replacement and a poor one happens before printing. Older boxes are rarely square, so we measure the retainer at several points instead of trusting the old artwork file. Acrylic grows in summer heat and needs clearance; flex needs an even tension frame. And a crisp new face exposes uneven lighting that the faded one hid, so we test the LEDs with the face off and fix them before we close the box.

Our designers set your Arabic and English artwork to the measured face, then we print a colour sample and view it lit from behind, because brand colours shift once the LEDs are on.
Flex is printed on backlit-grade material up to 3.2 m wide; acrylic and polycarbonate faces are CNC-cut with expansion clearance and finished with translucent vinyl or direct print.
With the old face off, we clean the cabinet, clear drain holes and check for rust, water, dead modules and hot spots. Lighting faults are fixed now, while access is already in place.
Acrylic panels drop into the retainer on spacers that keep the expansion gap. Flex is wrapped into the tension frame and tightened evenly from the centre outwards.
We power the sign and check evenness, colour and light leaks at the edges after dark, remove the old face from site and send before and after photos.

Lightbox repair looks simple, and most problems come from shortcuts. These are the points we explain on almost every job.
Acrylic expands noticeably in heat. Across a summer day a 2 m face can grow by several millimetres, so we allow roughly 3 mm of clearance per metre inside the retainer. A face cut snug to the frame in January bows outwards in July, pops out of its channel or cracks at a screw hole. Clearance is not sloppiness; it is what keeps the panel flat.
Standard acrylic sheet is about 2,440 x 1,220 mm, with larger sheets around 3,050 x 2,030 mm. Beyond that, a face needs a joint, ideally hidden behind a frame divider, or a switch to flex, which we print up to 3.2 m wide in one pass and can run several metres without a seam along its length. A 6 m fascia is almost always flex or segmented acrylic.
Deep reds and navy blues that look right in daylight can wash out to a pale tint once the LEDs are on. We print a backlit sample of your brand colour and, where needed, use day-night printing: a second registered layer behind the face that adds density at night without making the sign look dark by day.
A crisp new face shows dark patches and hot spots more clearly than the faded one it replaces. If modules have failed, are spaced too widely for the box depth, or the box still runs fluorescent tubes, this is the cheapest moment to fix it, because the access is already paid for and the face is already off.
Faces within reach of trolleys, car doors or footballs crack easily, and a hole in July lets dust and insects straight into the box. Polycarbonate costs more than acrylic but survives knocks that would break an acrylic panel outright. We recommend it for any face below about 2.5 m and on forecourts and school sites.

Larger faces use more material and handling. Polycarbonate costs more than acrylic, oversized acrylic may need joints, and flex is economical over long spans.
Simple cut vinyl lettering is quick. Full-colour prints, gradients, bilingual layouts and day-night printing take more design and print time.
Rust treatment, frame straightening, new drain holes or replacement retainers add work. A sound, clean box keeps the job to the face alone.
Failed LEDs or drivers, or old fluorescent tubes, add parts and labour, though it is cheaper to fix them while the face is already off.
A low fascia needs a ladder or tower; high faces need a boom lift. Night work in malls also affects the installation cost.
A rebrand on an outdoor lightbox can need updated approval drawings, which our draftsmen prepare as part of the job.
A like-for-like replacement of a damaged face with the same graphics often needs no new approval. Changing the brand or trade name on an outdoor lightbox usually means the sign no longer matches its existing permit, so an updated approval from Dubai Municipality, Sharjah or Ajman Municipality, the free-zone authority or the landlord is often needed.

Typically five to eight years before fading becomes obvious, depending on orientation, material and print quality. South and west-facing signs fade fastest. Cast translucent vinyl and UV-protected prints last longer than economy films, and a timer that keeps the sign off by day helps too.
