Engraved brass plaques
Flat brass plates with text and logos engraved and paint filled, typically in black. The classic choice for company names beside an entrance door.
Office doors, villas, embassiesPlaques, cut letters and nameplates in solid brass or bronze, polished and lacquered or left to age. We explain the upkeep honestly before you choose.
Yes. Unprotected brass darkens within weeks in UAE heat and humidity, and faster near the sea. A clear lacquer keeps it bright for longer but eventually wears and needs redoing. Many hotels instead choose a natural or pre-aged patina, which only needs a periodic wax to stay even.
Brass and bronze have a weight and warmth that coated metals only imitate. They are used for hotel entrances, embassy and villa plaques, law firm and private bank nameplates, heritage-style restaurants and building dedication plaques. Polished brass reads as formal and bright. Bronze is darker and browner, and ages to deep brown or green, which suits older architecture and landscaped settings.
The decision that matters most is not the design. It is how you want the metal to look in two years. Brass is a living material. It changes colour with touch, air and moisture. We help you choose between keeping it bright with lacquer and maintenance, or letting it develop a controlled patina, and we finish the sign to suit that plan.

Office doors, villas, embassiesDeeper chemical etching gives raised lettering on a textured background. Suits dedication, foundation and heritage plaques that should look permanent.
Building openings, memorials, heritage sitesIndividual letters laser cut from solid brass plate and fixed on hidden pins. Gives a crisp, high-end name on stone or timber cladding.
Hotel and restaurant entrancesSmall plates for room names, suite numbers and staff names, made to a consistent template across a building.
Hotel suites, executive floorsStainless steel with a brass or bronze tone PVD coating. Looks similar from a distance with far less maintenance, useful for high exposure positions.
Coastal sites, low-maintenance buildings| Finish | Appearance | How it ages | Upkeep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polished and lacquered brass | Bright yellow gold | Stays bright until lacquer wears | Re-lacquer when spotting appears |
| Satin brass, lacquered | Soft, brushed gold | Hides small marks longer | Gentle wipe, periodic re-lacquer |
| Natural brass, unlacquered | Bright at first | Darkens and spots unevenly | Regular polishing to stay bright |
| Antique or pre-aged brass | Brown-gold, darker recesses | Ages slowly and evenly | Occasional wax |
| Natural bronze | Warm brown | Deepens to dark brown or green | Wax to keep colour even |
| PVD brass-tone stainless | Brass-like gold | Very little change | Soft cloth clean only |
How much maintenance can you commit to?
With a team that wipes signs weekly, lacquered polished brass stays bright. Plan to have the lacquer stripped and renewed when you see dark spots appearing under it.
A pre-aged finish is designed to look darker and richer over time, so uneven tarnish is far less obvious. A light wax a few times a year keeps it looking even.
If the sign faces sea air, sprinklers or full sun, PVD-coated stainless gives a brass look without tarnish. It is the practical choice when nobody will maintain it.
Cast-look etched bronze is meant to age. Its patina adds to the sense of permanence, and the raised polished letters stay readable as the background darkens.
If the brand needs a bright gold sign every day, budget for lacquer and a cleaning routine. If an aged look suits the building, a pre-patinated finish is easier to keep even.
Brass-plated or brass-effect sheets show a different colour once cut or engraved. For engraved plaques, solid brass or bronze keeps the letters the same metal all the way through.
Irrigation, pool water and cleaning chemicals leave marks on brass quickly. Position plaques above sprinkler height and away from where floor cleaners splash the wall.
Black infill on polished brass is the most legible. On darker bronze, raised polished letters on a dark textured background read better than painted text.
Visible screws break the look of a brass plaque. We use studs, rosettes in matching brass, or concealed rails so the plate looks fixed to the wall without hardware showing.
From late summer, humidity and heat speed up tarnishing, especially on coastal sites. Lacquered signs hold up better, but expect more frequent wiping in these months.
Near the sea, unprotected brass and bronze can form green or white spots. A good lacquer or wax layer, plus regular rinsing with clean water, slows this down.
Door nameplates and lift plaques get touched daily. Skin oils leave marks on bare brass. Lacquered or satin finishes are more forgiving in busy hotel and office corridors.
A plaque naming a business on an exterior wall may need a sign permit, depending on emirate and size. Arabic and English are usually expected. We confirm the current requirement for your site.
We agree whether the sign stays bright or ages, then select lacquered, natural or pre-patinated metal to match.
Text, crest or logo is laid out at full size, with Arabic and English set so engraving depth stays readable.
Plaques are engraved or etched, and letters are laser cut from solid plate in our Ajman workshop.
Edges are dressed, infill applied, then the surface is polished, patinated, lacquered or waxed as agreed.
We install on concealed fixings and give you simple cleaning instructions for the finish you chose.
Brass is mainly copper and zinc, with a brighter yellow gold colour. Bronze is mainly copper and tin, and looks browner and deeper. Brass suits polished, formal plaques and letters. Bronze suits heritage and dedication plaques and ages to a darker patina. Both are solid metals, so engraving shows the same colour inside the letters.
For a lacquered brass plaque, wipe it with a soft damp cloth and mild soap only. Do not use metal polish, as it damages the lacquer. Unlacquered brass can be polished with a brass cleaner and soft cloth, then buffed dry. Avoid scouring pads and ammonia-based glass cleaners on any brass sign.
Lacquer on outdoor brass in the UAE usually lasts a limited period before it starts to break down, depending on sun, humidity and how often it is touched or cleaned. Signs in shade last much longer than signs in full sun. When spots appear under the lacquer, it should be stripped, the brass repolished and the lacquer reapplied.
Brass letters can be lit, but not usually from inside like an acrylic letter. The common options are a soft halo from LEDs behind stand-off letters, or a discreet spotlight or wall washer above. Halo lighting needs some letter depth, so solid flat brass letters are often lit externally.
Yes, for many sites it is. Stainless steel with a brass or bronze tone PVD coating looks similar from a normal viewing distance and does not tarnish. It is a good fit for coastal and exposed positions. Up close, solid brass has a warmer depth and can be refinished, which some hotels and heritage buildings prefer.
Cost depends on plaque size and thickness, whether it is solid brass or bronze, the engraving or etching method, the amount of detail, the finish, and the fixing. Raised etched bronze and pre-patinated finishes involve more hand work. Send your text and preferred size for a free quote, usually within 24 hours.
