Quick answer

What is flex printing?

Flex printing is large format printing on flexible PVC sheet, usually called flex or frontlit flex. It is used for outdoor banners, shop signs and promotions because it is cheap, waterproof and quick to produce. Banners are finished with hems and eyelets for tying, or stretched over a frame for a flat look.

Most businesses need a banner sooner or later. A grand opening, a Ramadan offer, a sale, a sponsor wall at an event. Banners are fast to print, easy to fit and simple to replace when the message changes. The real choices are the material, how the banner will be fixed, and how long it has to survive outdoors. We help you get all three right.

This page covers general banner and flex printing. For specific uses, we also have dedicated pages on fence banners for construction hoardings, roll-up banners for indoor stands, and building wraps for full façades. Everything is printed on wide-format machines in our Ajman workshop, then welded, hemmed or eyeleted by hand. Our team can also install banners on walls, frames and poles.

Types

Banner & Flex Printing we make

  1. Frontlit PVC flex

    Shop promotions and general use

The standard opaque banner material, printed on one side. Strong, waterproof and economical for shop fronts, promotions and wall-mounted signs lit from the front.

  2. Backlit flex

    Lightbox faces and night visibility

A translucent flex designed for light to pass through. Used as the face of lightboxes so colours stay bright when lit from behind at night.

  3. Mesh banners

    Large outdoor and windy spots

Perforated PVC that lets wind pass through. Ideal for large banners on scaffolding, railings and high walls where solid flex would act like a sail.

  4. Fabric banners

    Events, exhibitions and stage areas

Polyester fabric printed with dye-sublimation for rich colour and a soft matte finish. Folds without creasing badly and looks premium at indoor events.

  5. Double-sided banners

    Hanging and street banners

Two printed faces with a blockout layer between, so neither side shows through. Used for hanging banners seen from both directions.

  6. Framed flex signs

    Semi-permanent shop signage

Flex stretched tight over an aluminium or steel frame for a flat, sign-like finish that lasts longer than a tied banner.

Frontlit PVC flex

A wall-fixed banner in standard frontlit flex is the economical choice. Ask for a frame if you want it to stay up for months and look like a proper sign.

Choosing well

Getting a banner right

  • Match material to wind

Banners above head height or on open railings take strong wind loads. Use mesh for anything large or exposed, and save solid flex for walls, frames or sheltered spots.

  • Send artwork at the right size

Large banners are viewed from far away, so they do not need huge file resolution. Vector logos and text work best. We check your file and advise if images will look soft.

  • Specify the fixing points

Tell us how the banner will hang. Eyelets every half metre or so suit cable ties. Pole pockets suit flagpoles and street brackets. Frames give the neatest finish.

  • Write for a glance

Most banners are read in a few seconds from a car or across a road. Keep one main line, a short offer and a phone or web address in large type.

  • Plan for removal

Temporary banners eventually come down. Note who will remove them and when, especially for permits that run for a fixed period.

UAE conditions

Banner printing for UAE weather and rules

  • UV and heat

Strong sun fades inks and makes cheap flex brittle. We use outdoor-grade materials and inks and suggest lighter backgrounds for long-running banners, which absorb less heat.

  • Shamal and sandstorms

Sudden wind can tear a banner from its fixings. Mesh, reinforced hems and enough tie points reduce the risk. On large banners we may add wind slits or a frame.

  • Advertising permits

Outdoor advertising banners in Dubai usually need a Dubai Municipality permit, and Sharjah and Ajman municipalities have their own process. Banners near roads may involve RTA. We confirm the current requirement for your site.

  • Bilingual and seasonal content

Ramadan, Eid and National Day promotions are big banner seasons. Plan artwork in Arabic and English early, as print queues get busy before these dates.

FAQ

Banner & Flex Printing: common questions

What is the difference between flex and mesh banners?

Flex is a solid PVC sheet, while mesh has small holes that let air through. Flex gives the brightest, most solid print and suits walls and frames. Mesh is better for big banners on scaffolding or railings, because the wind passes through instead of pulling on the fixings. From a distance, both look similar.

How long does an outdoor flex banner last in the UAE?

It depends on sun exposure, wind and the material. A banner on a shaded wall can stay presentable for a long time, while one facing full summer sun will fade and stiffen faster. Framed banners last longer than tied ones. For long-term use, consider a rigid sign instead.

How quickly can you print a banner?

Standard banners are often ready quickly once artwork is approved, because we print in-house. Very large banners, joined panels, fabric or framed banners take longer. Busy periods before Ramadan, Eid and National Day can add time, so book early for seasonal promotions. Tell us your deadline when you send the artwork and we will confirm whether it can be met.

Can you print very large banners?

Yes. Banners wider than the printer roll are printed in panels and welded together, so the joins are strong and neat. For full building façades, our building wraps service covers the extra engineering, permits and access equipment that very large installations usually need. Mesh is usually the better material once a banner gets beyond a few metres wide outdoors.

Do I need a permit to hang a banner in Dubai?

Usually yes for outdoor advertising visible to the public. Dubai Municipality typically issues permits for banners, and Sharjah and Ajman municipalities have their own rules. Banners inside your own premises may not need one. We confirm the current requirement for your site and can handle the application.

What file format should I send for a banner?

A PDF or AI file with vector text and logos works best, set to the final size or to scale with bleed. High-resolution images are fine, but they do not need to be as dense as for small print. If you only have a logo, our designers can lay out the banner for you.
