Digital Menu Boards in the UAE

Digital menu boards that sell from the queue

A digital menu board is usually a row of two to four commercial LCD screens, 43 to 55 inches, mounted above the counter in landscape or portrait and driven by media players running signage software. Items and prices sit in templates that can be edited centrally and scheduled by time of day, so breakfast switches to lunch on its own at 11. They suit restaurants and cafes whose menu, prices or promotions change several times a year, and groups that need one update to reach every branch.

A good board is mostly a design and planning job. Forty items in small text are harder to read than a decent printed menu; domestic TVs fail under 16 hours a day of fixed images; screens facing a sunny shopfront wash out; and screens boxed in above a fryer cook. We start with the menu layout and the queue distance, specify commercial displays rated for your hours, and design surrounds with ventilation so the screens sit tidily in the counter design without overheating.

Bayan Signage has run its own sign factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman, since 2016, as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE for 15 years. Our designers build the menu templates in Arabic and English, our fabricators CNC-cut and powder-coat the aluminium or ACP surrounds, our electricians route power and data, and our crews install out of trading hours. Many food and retail brands come back to us for each new branch.

Our process

How we deliver digital menu boards for your counter

  1. Counter survey

We measure the counter wall or ceiling, check the queue distance, sunlight from the shopfront, heat from the kitchen line and where power and data can reach. The visit is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Menu layout first

Our designers lay out your menu by category in Arabic and English, decide how many screens it really needs and where the promotion zone sits, before any hardware is chosen.

  3. Surround and rail fabrication

Surrounds and mounting rails are CNC-cut from aluminium or ACP in our Ajman factory, powder-coated to your interior colours and vented so the screens can breathe.

  4. Screens, players and templates

We supply commercial screens rated for your hours, set up players and the CMS, build the templates and schedule dayparts, then run the full system before installation.

  5. Installation out of hours

Our crew installs the rail, screens and surround after closing or before opening, aligns every screen, conceals cables and checks the menu from the queue position.

  6. Training and handover

We show your team how to change prices, mark items sold out and schedule offers, and agree who owns the content so the menu stays correct.

Expert advice

Advice from our menu design team

Most of what makes a digital menu work happens on paper. These are the rules our designers apply before choosing a single screen.

Twelve items per screen, at most

Customers read menu boards from 2 to 5 m, often while moving in a queue. At that distance item names and prices need to be at least 40 to 60 mm tall on screen. A 55-inch screen, about 1.2 m wide, holds eight to twelve items with prices, or one hero image and a few items. If your menu needs more, add a screen or cut the list; shrinking the text only slows the queue.

Allow space for two languages

Arabic and English side by side need roughly 30 per cent more space than English alone. Plan both from the first layout rather than squeezing Arabic in afterwards, and have the translation checked by a native speaker. A bilingual menu designed as one composition looks deliberate; a translated one looks crowded.

Move one thing at a time

Motion draws the eye, which is why it works for the new item or the combo. When every zone moves, nothing reads. Keep animation to a single zone, keep the rest static, and use light text on a dark background, which reads well and is easier on staff who look at it all day.

Keep screens away from heat and grease

Screens above an open kitchen or near fryers face heat, steam and grease that shorten their life. We position them away from the hottest line, vent the surround so warm air can escape, and choose screens rated for the temperature. Grease is easier to clean from a smooth glass front, so we avoid textured finishes near cooking.

Give the content an owner

A digital board is only as good as the last update. Someone has to keep prices right, remove expired offers and check that every screen is on each morning. Without that person, an illuminated printed menu is the more reliable choice, and we will tell you so.

Pricing

Digital menu board price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote each counter from its layout and screen count. Send us your current menu, the counter width, photos and the number of branches, and you will usually receive an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Number and size of screens

Each screen adds a display, a mount and often a player; larger and high-brightness screens cost noticeably more.

Commercial or consumer displays

Commercial screens cost more than TVs but are built for long hours and fixed content, and stay covered by the maker when used in a restaurant.

Surround and integration

A plain wall mount is economical; custom surrounds, illuminated headers, ceiling-hung frames and fully concealed cabling add fabrication and fitting time.

Software and licences

Cloud CMS platforms usually charge a subscription per screen; POS integration and multi-branch control affect both set-up and running cost.

Content design

Templates and layout are a one-off cost; food photography, video and motion graphics for promotions add more.

Installation hours

Most outlets need work after closing or before opening, and mall food courts often set strict night-shift windows.

Approvals

Digital menu board rules for malls and food outlets

Indoor digital menu boards do not usually need a municipality permit, but mall food courts and managed buildings often set tenant criteria for screen size, brightness, sound and electrical connections, and some ask for shop drawings before installation. We prepare those drawings and work to the landlord's fit-out rules.

Food information is also changing. Authorities in some emirates have introduced or are expanding requirements for calorie and nutrition information on menus, and allergen notes may be expected. A digital board makes such updates quick across every branch. Requirements differ by emirate and outlet type, so we confirm the current rules with you before the templates are finalised.

Why Bayan Signage

Why restaurants choose Bayan Signage for digital menu boards

Surrounds made in our factory

Aluminium and ACP surrounds, rails and headers are CNC-cut and powder-coated in Ajman to match your interior, with ventilation built in.

Menu design in two languages

Our designers build Arabic and English templates as one composition, sized for your queue distance and checked by a native speaker.

Commercial-grade hardware

We supply screens rated for your trading hours and test the full system with your menu before installation.

Installed out of trading hours

Our crews work after closing or before opening so your counter never stops serving, then check the menu from the queue.

Ready for more branches

Templates, surrounds and drawings stay on file, so the next outlet gets an identical counter on a short programme.

Signage and screens together

We also make the fascia, illuminated and printed menus and interior signs, so the whole outlet comes from one supplier and one project manager.

FAQ

Digital Menu Boards questions we are asked most

How much does a digital menu board cost in Dubai?

It depends on the number and size of screens, commercial or high-brightness displays, the surround, the software licence and the content design. A pair of portrait screens in a cafe costs far less than a four-screen counter with an illuminated header and POS integration. Send us your menu and counter width for an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Are digital menu boards worth it for a small restaurant?

They are worth it when prices, items or offers change more than a few times a year, or when you run different breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. For a small cafe with a fixed menu, a well-designed illuminated or printed board costs less. How often the menu changes, and how many outlets share it, usually decides.

Can I use ordinary TVs instead of commercial screens?

You can, but they rarely last. Domestic TVs are designed for a few hours a day, can suffer image retention from fixed menus, and their manufacturer cover often does not apply to commercial use. Commercial screens are built for 16 to 24 hours a day and cost less over their life.

How do we change prices on the menu?

Through the CMS, from a browser or an app. Staff edit the item or price in the template and publish it to one screen, one branch or every branch. Changes can be scheduled in advance, and with POS integration items can show as sold out automatically.

Can the menu change by time of day?

Yes. Dayparting is the feature restaurant operators value most. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night menus can switch automatically at set times, and Ramadan hours or holiday menus can be scheduled weeks ahead.

Can digital menu boards be in Arabic and English?

Yes, and in the UAE they usually should be. Our designers build bilingual templates with both scripts at equal legibility and allow the extra space Arabic needs. Translations are checked by a native speaker before anything goes live.

How long does installation take?

A typical three-screen counter is installed in one night or one early morning once the surround is made and the templates are approved. We test the system in advance so the screens show your menu as soon as they are mounted.

Do you install menu boards outside Dubai?

Yes. Our crews install across all seven emirates from our Ajman factory, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Al Ain, and we can roll out matching boards across a group of branches.
