Easel & Sidewalk Signs in the UAE

Easel signs and sidewalk signs, chosen for where they stand

Easel signs cover two kinds of portable sign that people often treat as one. A display easel is a three-legged stand in wood or metal holding a loose board on a ledge: a welcome sign, a menu, a seating plan. A sidewalk sign is a self-contained frame on a heavy, often sprung base, built to stand outside. Cafés, hotels, restaurants, salons, clinics, showrooms and forecourts across Dubai use both to catch people in the last few metres before the door.

The board gets the attention, but the stand decides whether the sign works. A light easel on a breezy terrace will topple onto a guest; a sidewalk sign with a half-filled base will walk across the pavement in the first gust. We start every order by asking where the sign will stand, how exposed it is and who moves it at closing time, then pick the stand, base weight and board material to match before any artwork is drawn.

Bayan Signage has made signs in its Ajman factory since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, a UAE group with 15 years in the market. Boards are printed on our large-format machines, cut on CNC routers and laminated in-house, and steel frames are laser-cut and powder-coated here too. For our 500+ clients, an easel board is often the small piece that sits in front of the shopfront sign we also made.

Our process

How we make easel signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Location and exposure check

We ask whether the sign stands indoors, under a canopy or in open wind, how far people read it from and who moves it each day. A photo of the spot is usually enough to recommend a stand.

  2. Design for a glance

Our designers set one message, one image and one call to action, with headings of 50 to 80 mm and body text of at least 20 mm, balancing Arabic and English on the same board.

  3. Board printing and cutting

Boards are printed on our large-format machines, laminated matt and CNC-routed to size with rounded corners. Chalkboard panels are cut and edged to fit the frame or easel ledge.

  4. Frame finishing

Steel sidewalk frames are laser-cut and powder-coated in your brand colour in our factory. Stock easels and spring bases are checked for fit with the board before packing.

  5. Fit and stability test

Each board is fitted to its stand, the base filled and the sign checked for stability and readable height, then matched against the approved artwork before dispatch.

  6. Delivery and placement advice

We deliver across the UAE and show staff how to fill and drain the base, where to place the sign clear of walkways and when to bring it inside.

Expert advice

Advice from our portable signs team

Portable signs fail in three ways: they fall over, nobody reads them, or they get banned by the landlord. These points prevent all three.

Pick the base before the board

Outdoors, a display easel is the wrong product, however nice it looks. Our rule is a base of at least 15 kg for any sign on an open pavement or forecourt, and spring connectors where wind or passing traffic will hit it. Fill water bases completely; a half-filled base loses much of its stability. Bring all portable signs in during sandstorms or very windy afternoons.

Order two boards for one easel

We often suggest cafés order a printed board with the logo, opening hours and a standing message, plus a chalkboard for daily specials. The printed one keeps the entrance professional on busy days when nobody has time to write; the chalkboard adds warmth when someone does. It costs little more and fixes the most common sight at café doors: a blank or scruffy board.

Leave 1.2 m of clear walkway

A sign in the middle of a pavement or mall corridor irritates people, blocks prams and wheelchairs and is the quickest way to receive a landlord's warning. Keep at least 1.2 m of clear width where you can, stay off ramps and the textured guidance paving used by visually impaired pedestrians, and place the sign beside the door rather than in front of it.

Write for three seconds

Pedestrians glance at an easel sign for two or three seconds. A list of ten items at 15 mm is ignored. One message, one image and one call to action, with headings of 50 to 80 mm, read from 2 to 3 m away. Put the full menu inside, and use the easel to give someone a reason to walk in.

Measure the easel ledge

Many display easels only hold boards of a certain thickness and height. A 10 mm board will not sit on a narrow lip, and a 1000 mm board can overbalance a short easel. Tell us the easel model or send its ledge depth and height range, and we size the board to fit rather than discovering the problem at the event.

Pricing

Easel sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote easels and sidewalk signs per unit, with board, stand and base listed separately. Send the location photo, board size, quantity and artwork, and you will usually receive an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Stand type

Display easels are the most economical. Weighted sidewalk signs and spring-base units cost more because of their steel frames, springs and heavy bases.

Board material

Printed PVC foam board is cost-effective. ACP, chalkboard and dry-wipe panels cost more but last longer outdoors and with frequent handling.

Printing and finish

A single printed face is quick. Double-sided boards, custom shapes and special laminates add material and production time.

Branded frames

Powder coating the frame in your colour or cutting a logo into it costs more than a plain stock stand, but makes the sign unmistakably yours.

Quantity

Several identical signs for multiple branches or entrances spread artwork and set-up costs, making each unit more economical.

Replacement boards

Once you have the stand, new boards for seasonal offers or menus are a small print job rather than a new sign.

Approvals

Mall, municipality and access rules for sidewalk signs

Portable signs are simple to buy and easy to get wrong with a landlord. Malls usually control what tenants place outside their units and how far beyond the shop line, and municipalities in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman may restrict signs on public pavements or require permission for advertising in the public realm. Petrol stations and communities often have operator rules of their own.

Access matters as well. Signs must not block accessible routes, ramps or textured guidance paving, which supports the expectations of the Dubai Universal Design Code for public spaces. We can check your tenant criteria with you and confirm what applies to your location, and we will suggest a fixed or wall-mounted alternative if a portable sign is not allowed where you want it.

FAQ

Easel & Sidewalk Signs questions we are asked most

How much does an easel sign cost in Dubai?

It depends on the stand type, board material, printing and any branding on the frame. A printed board for an existing easel costs far less than a branded spring-base sidewalk sign. Send us a photo of the location, the board size and your artwork, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can an easel sign be used outside?

Only in sheltered places and calm weather. Display easels are light and tip over easily in wind. For pavements, terraces and forecourts, choose a sidewalk sign with a heavy or water-filled base, ideally with springs. Bring any portable sign inside when it gets windy or at closing time.

What size board fits a standard easel?

Most display easels take boards of 600 x 900 mm or A1, up to around 700 x 1000 mm on larger easels. The ledge depth limits thickness, so 3 to 5 mm boards are typical. Tell us the easel model or measure its ledge and height range before ordering a new board.

What is a spring-base sidewalk sign?

It is a sign frame mounted on springs above a weighted base. When wind or a passing person pushes it, the frame tilts and springs back upright instead of falling. That makes it much steadier outdoors than an easel or light A-board, and it suits petrol stations, car parks and windy shopfronts.

Can I write on a printed easel board?

Standard printed boards are not made for writing, although some take dry-wipe markers if laminated with a suitable film. For handwriting, a chalkboard or dry-wipe panel is better. Many cafés combine a printed header with a chalkboard section below for daily specials.

Do I need permission for a sidewalk sign?

Often, yes. Malls usually control what tenants place outside their units, and municipalities may restrict signs on public pavements. Requirements vary by location and landlord, so check before you buy, and we can help confirm the current rules for your site.

How long does it take to make an easel sign?

Replacement printed boards for existing easels are the simplest job, while complete sidewalk signs with powder-coated frames or custom branding involve more steps. Either way, we give you a realistic schedule with the quote, which usually arrives within 24 hours. For events, tell us the date and venue so we plan delivery in good time.

Do you deliver easel signs outside Dubai?

Yes. We deliver easels, sidewalk signs and replacement boards to Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, as well as across Dubai, from our factory in Ajman.
