Event Directional Signs in the UAE

Directional event signage that moves guests through the venue

Directional event signage is the temporary wayfinding that takes guests from the main road to their seat and back: approach signs at the site entrance, arrows at every car park junction and corridor turn, confirmation signs along long walks, and destination signs for halls, registration, prayer rooms, toilets and exits. Event organisers, hotels, agencies and exhibition teams need it wherever guests arrive at a venue they do not know.

A good set of event signage is a system, not a stack of arrows. The usual failure is one large sign at the entrance and nothing at the next junction, or a board listing eight destinations that nobody can read while walking. We start with the route, mark every point where a guest would hesitate, and only then decide formats and sizes. Each sign is numbered to a placement map, so it goes up in the right place.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has 15 years in the UAE market, with its own Ajman factory since 2016. Large-format printing, CNC cutting of Correx, foam board and ACP, frame welding and assembly all happen in-house, so a hundred-sign event signage set can be produced to one standard on a short deadline. Our own crews install it and collect it.

Our process

How we plan and produce event signage in our Ajman factory

  1. Route walk and decision points

We walk or drive the route from the road to each destination, mark every junction, entrance and lift lobby, and note ground type and fixing rules. Site visits are free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Sign schedule and placement map

Our designers draw the system: approach, decision, confirmation and destination signs, each with a number, destinations, arrow direction, format and position on a site map.

  3. Printing and cutting

Signs are printed on our large-format printers in the event colours and CNC-cut from Correx, foam board or ACP. Reflective arrows are added where routes run after dark.

  4. Numbering and packing

Each sign carries its map number on the back and is packed by zone, so crews place sign 14 at point 14 without guessing.

  5. Installation and guest test

We install along the route, then walk or drive it as a first-time guest, by day and after sunset for evening events, and move anything hidden or confusing.

  6. Daily checks and collection

On multi-day events we check signs each morning. Afterwards we collect every sign against the map, so nothing is left on roads or in the venue.

Advice from our event planning team

Event signage works best when guests stop noticing it. These are the rules of thumb we use on every event signage plan.

Sign every decision point, then confirm

A guest needs a sign wherever there is a choice: site entrance, car park junction, drop-off, building door, lift lobby and corridor turn. On long stretches with no choice, add a small confirmation sign every 30 to 50 m so people know they are still right. Walk the route as a stranger and put a sign everywhere you would slow down. Most first plans miss two or three of these points.

Three destinations per sign, maximum

A sign listing eight destinations is unreadable at walking pace and impossible from a car. Keep to three, with the most important first, and split the rest onto a second sign a few metres on. Arrows should be at least as tall as the text, and the arrow should sit on the side it points to, so the eye reads direction before words.

Place driver signs before the turn

Drivers at 20 to 40 km/h need time to react, so signs go 20 to 30 m before a junction, not at it, at the driver's eye height and with letters of at least 100 to 150 mm. Pedestrian signs are centred at about 1.5 to 1.8 m, higher where crowds will stand in front of them, such as outside registration.

Plan for after sunset

Many UAE events start after dark to avoid the heat, and signs that work at 4 pm can vanish at 8 pm in an unlit car park. Use high contrast, add reflective arrows where headlights will hit them, and position signs near existing lighting. We check routes at night for evening events, because that is when the real problems appear.

Design for reuse if the event repeats

For annual conferences and recurring family days, keep the event brand and arrow style generic and put destination names on changeable panels or stickers. ACP boards and A-frames stored flat and dry can serve several editions, which cuts the cost of each event and keeps the look consistent.

Pricing

Event signage price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We price event signage from the sign schedule. Send the venue, dates, expected guests and any site plan, and you will usually receive an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Number of signs

Quantity is the biggest factor. A hotel conference may need a handful of signs; a festival or multi-day exhibition can need dozens or hundreds.

Format and material

Correx and foam board are economical. A-frames, ACP panels, flags and hanging signs cost more because of hardware and structure.

Route planning

A walk-through to plan positions takes time but prevents wasted signs and gaps, especially on outdoor and multi-building sites.

Installation and collection

Placing and collecting signs across a large site needs crew time, vehicles and sometimes night work, all priced up front.

Reusability

Generic event branding with changeable destination panels costs a little more once and saves money on recurring events.

Approvals

Signs on public roads, roundabouts or land you do not control may need approval; preparing drawings is quoted separately.

Approvals

Event signage permits on roads and in venues

Temporary signs on public roads, roundabouts, lamp posts or verges usually need approval from the municipality and, in Dubai, possibly the RTA, and they must never obstruct or imitate traffic signs. Signs inside a private site or community may need only the landowner's or community's consent. Our draftsmen prepare drawings and locations for submissions, and we confirm the current requirement for your route.

Inside hotels, malls and exhibition centres, the venue sets the rules. Many ban tape on walls, nails in floors or anything that blocks fire exits and emergency signage, and exhibition halls control hanging points. We plan freestanding or approved fixings and keep exit routes clear. Requirements vary by venue, so we confirm them before installation.

FAQ

Event Directional Signs questions we are asked most

How much does event signage cost in Dubai?

It depends mainly on the number of signs, the formats, the size of the site and how much installation and collection is needed. A few boards on stands for a hotel seminar cost far less than a festival route with stake signs, flags and hanging signs. Send the venue, dates and a site plan, and we will usually quote within 24 hours.

Where should event directional signs be placed?

At every decision point: site entrances, car park junctions, drop-off points, building entrances, lift lobbies and corridor turns, plus confirmation signs on long stretches. Walk or drive the route as a first-time guest and place a sign wherever you would hesitate. Then repeat the check after dark if the event runs into the evening.

How large should directional signs be?

For pedestrians, text of about 50 to 75 mm reads from 10 to 15 m. For drivers, use at least 100 to 150 mm letters and no more than three destinations. Arrows should be as large as the text or larger. Boards typically range from A2 indoors to 1,200 x 800 mm approach signs outdoors.

Do I need a permit for event signs on roads?

Usually, yes. Signs on public roads, roundabouts or lamp posts typically need municipality approval and, in Dubai, possibly RTA approval. Signs inside a private venue may need only the venue's agreement. We confirm the current requirement for your route and build the approval time into the schedule.

What materials work best outdoors?

Correx is light, waterproof and economical for stake signs and short outdoor use. A-frames and ACP panels on weighted bases are sturdier for paths and entrances, and flags help mark an entrance from a distance. For multi-day outdoor events, choose UV-stable print and heavier bases.

How quickly can event signage be produced?

We give you a realistic schedule with the quote, planned back from your build-up date. Simple printed boards and Correx signs are the quickest items to produce; larger systems with flags and hanging signs need more time. Planning the route and getting venue or authority approval usually takes more time than printing, so start early.

How is directional signage different from welcome and sponsor signs?

Welcome signs greet guests at one point and set the mood; sponsor boards display partner logos. Directional signs are a system spread along the route, designed to be read quickly while moving. Most events need all three, and we design them in one style so guests recognise them as part of the same event.

Can signs be reused, and do you cover the whole UAE?

Yes. With generic branding and changeable destination panels, ACP boards and A-frames can serve several events if stored flat and dry. We install and collect across all seven emirates from our Ajman factory, including desert and beach sites.
