First Aid Signs in the UAE

First aid signs that shorten the search for help

A first aid sign is a safe condition sign: a white cross on a green square, following ISO 7010, usually with 'First aid' in Arabic and English. It marks first aid kits and rooms, and its close relatives mark eyewash stations, emergency safety showers and defibrillators. Warning signs sit at the hazard; these signs have to be found from wherever someone gets hurt. That is why a good set includes directional signs along corridors and a board showing who the trained first-aiders are, not only a sign above the box.

The difference between a useful set and a decorative one is visibility. A flat sign beside a kit in a long corridor can only be seen from directly in front of it. A sign at 1.2 m disappears behind shelving and trolleys. An eyewash sign in small print is useless to someone with chemical in their eyes. We plan sizes, heights and projecting signs from your floor plans, then make the full set in our own factory so every green, every symbol and every bilingual line matches.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE for 15 years, and has fabricated signs in Ajman since 2016. Our designers, draftsmen, printers and installers work as one team at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, so a factory with forty help points, a school or a mall concourse is handled from survey to installation by one project manager. We also produce the fire, exit and evacuation signs that help points are usually marked alongside.

Our process

How we make first aid signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Mapping help points

We mark every first aid kit, room, eyewash unit, shower and defibrillator on your floor plans with your HSE or facilities team, then trace the routes people would walk from each work area.

  2. Sign schedule and sight lines

Each location gets a sign type, size and height, and our draftsmen add directional or projecting signs wherever the help point cannot be seen from a main route.

  3. Artwork and first-aider board

Our designers set the ISO 7010 symbols with bilingual text and lay out the first-aider board with photos, names, floors and extensions, ready for changeable strips.

  4. Printing and cutting

Signs are printed on our large-format printers, laminated, and mounted on acrylic, PVC, aluminium or ACP blanks CNC-routed to ±0.1 mm, with brackets prepared for projecting signs.

  5. Check against the schedule

Every sign is checked for symbol, text, arrow direction and quantity against the approved schedule, then packed by floor or zone so the install follows the plan.

  6. Installation and walk-test

We fix each sign above its equipment, mount projecting signs clear of doors and services, and walk the main routes afterwards to confirm the next sign is always in view.

Advice from our safety signage team

First aid signage is about finding help fast. These are the points we raise on most sites, from offices to factory halls.

Mount above the clutter

Kits end up behind shelving, water coolers and stacked boxes. We set the bottom edge of the sign at around 1.8 to 2 m, above typical cabinets and trolleys, so it stays visible when the room fills up. In warehouses and production halls, read from 15 m or more, a 300 x 300 mm or 400 x 400 mm sign on a column works far better than a small plate on a wall.

Project the sign in long corridors

A flat sign on a corridor wall can only be read from directly in front. A double-sided projecting sign on a bracket is visible from both ends. In long corridors or open-plan floors, we add a directional sign about every 20 to 30 m where the kit itself is out of sight, and one at each canteen and main entrance, where most people pass.

Design eyewash signs for impaired vision

Someone splashed with a chemical may be able to see only shapes and colour. Eyewash and shower signs should be large, high contrast and directly above the unit, with the route to it kept short and the floor in front kept clear. We often specify 400 x 400 mm here, larger than the kit sign in the same room.

Put faces before names

Clients usually ask for a neat list of first-aiders in small type. We design the board with photos larger than the names, plus a first name, floor and extension. In a busy workplace, new staff and contractors recognise a face before they remember a name. Changeable strips mean the board stays right when people leave or finish training.

Keep the cross green

A red cross on white is a protected emblem and is not the ISO 7010 first aid sign. Use the white cross on green, which keeps them distinct from red fire equipment signs, yellow warnings and blue mandatory signs. And when a kit moves during a refit, move the sign with it before the area reopens, so nobody follows it to an empty wall.

Pricing

First aid sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote from your list of help points and your floor plans. Send those with a few photos, and you will usually receive an itemised quote, with materials, labour and installation shown separately, within 24 hours.

Number of help points

Most of the cost follows the number of kits, eyewash units, showers and defibrillators, and the directional signs needed to reach each one.

Projecting and hanging signs

Flat wall signs are the simplest. Double-sided projecting or ceiling-hung signs need brackets, cables and more installation time.

Material and environment

Indoor acrylic or PVC is economical. Aluminium for outdoor and industrial areas and photoluminescent media add material cost.

First-aider boards

A simple printed board costs little. Boards with photos, changeable strips and acrylic covers cost more but stay accurate as staff change.

Spread of the site

A few signs in one office are quick. Several floors, halls or sites, especially while occupied, take planned installation time.

Design criteria

Hospitals, schools and managed buildings may set their own sign styles, which adds proofing rounds before production.

Approvals

First aid sign standards and workplace inspections

UAE employers are generally expected to provide medical kits and facilities suited to their workforce and risks, and authorities, free zones and main contractors may check them during HSE inspections and audits. The signs themselves follow ISO 7010 safe condition symbols, and Arabic and English text is normally expected. Requirements vary by sector, so we work from your HSE plan and confirm expectations for your site.

In hospitals, clinics, schools and public buildings, the project's design criteria usually set sign styles, and the Dubai Universal Design Code may affect mounting heights and contrast where it applies. Defibrillator and first aid locations should also appear on evacuation plans, so we update those plans at the same time when we produce both. We check any landlord or operator standard before production.

FAQ

First Aid Signs questions we are asked most

What does a first aid sign look like?

A first aid sign is a white cross on a green square or rectangle, following ISO 7010 safe condition colours, usually with 'First aid' in Arabic and English. Related green signs mark eyewash stations, emergency showers, defibrillators and first aid rooms. They are placed above the equipment and along the route to it, so anyone can find help quickly.

Where should first aid signs be placed?

Directly above or beside each kit and on the first aid room door, plus directional signs along routes where the kit cannot be seen from main areas. In large spaces, projecting signs on columns or walls make the location visible from a distance. First-aider boards usually go at reception, lift lobbies, canteens and department entrances.

How much do first aid signs cost in Dubai?

The cost depends on the number of help points, sign sizes, whether you need projecting or directional signs and the type of first-aider board. A small office set is a modest order; a factory with many stations and eyewash units is larger. Send your floor plans and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

What size should a first aid sign be?

In offices and shops, 200 x 200 mm is usually enough. In warehouses, factories and car parks, where signs must be seen from 15 m or more, 300 x 300 mm or 400 x 400 mm signs work better, often projecting from columns. Eyewash and shower signs are often larger, because the person looking for them may not see clearly.

Do you make defibrillator signs?

Yes. Defibrillator signs use the green ISO 7010 defibrillator symbol, a heart with a lightning flash and cross, usually with bilingual text. We make location signs for the cabinet and directional signs along the route, and recommend marking every defibrillator on the evacuation plans so it can be found by anyone in the building.

Can a first-aider board be updated easily?

Yes, if it is designed for it. We make boards with slide-in name and photo strips, or printed inserts behind an acrylic cover, so names, floors and extensions can be changed without replacing the board. This matters because first-aider lists change regularly as staff leave or complete training.

Do first aid signs need to glow in the dark?

Not usually, but it can help in stairs, corridors and plant areas where someone might need to find a kit during a power failure, and some buildings specify photoluminescent safety signs throughout. We confirm the requirement for your building with your HSE team or consultant and produce the set on the appropriate material.

Do you install first aid signs across the UAE?

Yes. We produce every sign in Ajman and install across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The site visit is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. For occupied offices and schools, we can install outside working hours to avoid disruption.
