Parking Entry & Exit Signs in the UAE

Parking entrance signs drivers see in time to turn

A parking entrance sign tells a moving driver where to turn in, and its partners tell them where to go next. On the street side that usually means a lit P sign or totem with the building or car park name and an arrow. At the ramp, a header over the opening reads 'Entry' or 'Exit' in Arabic and English, often with the height limit. Inside, exit signs lead drivers back to the street, and 'No entry' signs stop cars driving up an exit ramp against the traffic.

The difference between a sign that works and one that loses customers is timing. A driver at 40 km/h covers about 11 m every second and needs several seconds to see, decide, signal and slow down. A sign placed at the turning point is read too late; a sign hidden behind a bus shelter is not read at all. We size and place every parking entrance sign for the real road speed and confirm its position with a night drive-past before any foundation is cast.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, with 15 years in the UAE, and has fabricated outdoor signs at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman since 2016. We weld galvanised steel totem frames, clad them in ACP, CNC-cut the faces, assemble and test LED modules and powder-coat the finish, all in-house. Our draftsmen prepare permit drawings for Dubai Municipality and free-zone authorities, and outdoor signs carry our 5-year warranty on LEDs, finish and structure.

Our process

How we build parking entrance signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Survey and night drive-past

We survey the frontage, ramps and power points, then drive past at the real road speed after dark to fix the sign position. The survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Design and permit drawings

Our designers size the P symbol and text for the reading distance; our draftsmen prepare shop drawings, structural details and the submission package for the municipality or free zone.

  3. Frame welding and cladding

Totem and header frames are welded from galvanised steel, clad in ACP and powder-coated. Faces are CNC-routed to ±0.1 mm in acrylic or ACP for push-through or lit panels.

  4. LED assembly and burn-in

Our electricians fit Samsung or Epistar IP65 modules, mount the drivers in a ventilated position away from the sunniest face, and run every sign at full brightness before dispatch.

  5. Quality check against drawings

Each sign is checked against the approved drawing for size, colour, wording and light uniformity, and the arrows are confirmed against the site plan.

  6. Foundations and installation

We scan for services, cast foundations, install the totem or header, connect it to the supply your electrician provides and test it after dark with the photocell set.

Expert advice

Advice from our estimating team

These are the points we raise on almost every car park entrance. Each is free to get right on the drawing and expensive once a foundation is cast.

Size the sign from the road speed

At 40 km/h a driver covers about 11 m per second and needs four or five seconds to react and slow, so the sign should be readable from roughly 50 to 80 m. That usually means a P symbol at least 400 to 600 mm high and the car park name at 150 mm or more. On a 60 km/h road, add an advance sign before the entrance and go larger.

Place it before the turn, never at it

A sign at the entrance itself is read by drivers who have already passed it. Put the main sign where the decision is made, ahead of the turning point, and use the ramp header to confirm. We fix the position with a night drive-past, because a bus shelter, tree or bright shopfront can hide a sign that looked perfect on the plan.

Light the street sign

Many UAE car parks are busiest after sunset, especially in summer. An unlit sign works by day and disappears among street and shop lighting at night. We fit a photocell or timer so the sign switches on at dusk, and mount the drivers away from the hottest face of the cabinet so they survive a long summer.

Sign the exit ramp against wrong-way traffic

Drivers who miss the entrance often try the next opening they see. A 'No entry' sign facing them at the foot of every exit ramp, plus a clear Exit header, prevents head-on near misses. On frontages where the entry and exit are close together, use different colours or symbols so nobody turns into the wrong one.

Keep tariffs off the entrance sign

Prices, opening hours and phone numbers make an entrance sign unreadable at speed. Keep it to the P symbol, the name and an arrow. The tariff belongs on a separate rate board just inside the entrance or before the barrier, where cars slow down or stop and drivers have time to read it.

Pricing

Parking entrance sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote from your site plan and photos, not a price list. Send the frontage, the ramp locations and any landlord criteria, and you will usually receive an itemised quote, separating fabrication, installation and permit work, within 24 hours.

Street sign format

A reflective post sign is the most economical. Illuminated totems and lightboxes cost more because of structure, foundations, LEDs and electrical work.

Number of entrances and levels

Each entrance, exit and level adds a group of signs. Sites with separate valet, service and visitor entries need more pieces and planning.

Illumination and power

Lit signs need a supply, sealed drivers and usually a photocell or timer. Long cable runs from the nearest board add electrical cost.

Foundations and structure

Totems and tall posts need concrete foundations and scanning for buried services. Headers must fix into structure, not finishes.

Permits and approvals

Street-facing signs usually need municipality or free-zone approval; we prepare and submit the drawings as part of the job.

Parking system integration

Leaving space for a spaces-available counter from your parking system provider means agreeing dimensions, power and cabling early.

Approvals

Parking entrance sign permits in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Street-facing parking entrance signs, especially illuminated totems, usually need approval from Dubai Municipality, Sharjah or Ajman Municipality, or the free-zone authority where the plot sits, and malls and master communities add their own design criteria. Signs on the public road reserve, such as directional signs on a main road, are normally controlled by the road authority, such as the RTA in Dubai.

Our technical draftsmen prepare the shop drawings, structural details and elevations for the submission, and follow the application through. Signs near junctions must not block sightlines or look like official traffic signs, which we check at the survey. Requirements vary by location and change over time, so we confirm the current rules for your exact address.

FAQ

Parking Entry & Exit Signs questions we are asked most

Do parking entrance signs need a permit in Dubai?

Street-facing signs, especially illuminated ones, usually need approval from Dubai Municipality or the relevant free-zone authority, and malls and communities have their own criteria. Signs inside the plot or basement are usually simpler. We confirm the current requirement for your site and prepare the drawings for submission.

How much does a parking entrance sign cost in Dubai?

It depends on the format, size, illumination, foundations, the number of entrances and permit work. A reflective post sign costs far less than a lit totem with its own foundation. Send your site plan and photos and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can I put a parking sign on the main road?

Usually not on your own. Signs on the public road reserve are generally traffic signs controlled by the road authority, such as the RTA in Dubai. Building owners normally place their signs within their own plot, set back so they do not obstruct sightlines at the junction.

How big should the P symbol be?

For a street-facing sign read at 50 to 80 m on a typical city road, a P symbol at least 400 to 600 mm high works well. On faster roads or where the entrance is set back, larger symbols and an advance sign before the entrance are worth the extra cost.

Should parking entrance signs be illuminated?

In most UAE locations, yes. Car parks are often busiest after sunset, and an unlit sign is easily lost among street and shop lighting. Smaller internal signs can rely on reflective film, but the main street sign usually benefits from LED illumination with a photocell or timer.

Can the sign show how many spaces are free?

Yes, if your parking guidance or barrier system provides the count. We build the sign with space and power for the counter display supplied by your parking system provider, and agree dimensions and cabling with them before fabrication so it fits neatly and can be serviced.

What is the difference between an entrance sign and a rate board?

An entrance sign tells a moving driver where to turn in; a rate board explains tariffs and rules to a driver who has slowed or stopped. They work best as separate signs, with the rate board just inside the entrance or before the barrier.

Can you repair or relocate an existing car park sign?

Yes. We repair failed LEDs and drivers, replace faded faces and can relocate a totem to a better position with a new foundation. Our sign removal and relocation and LED repair teams handle signs we did not originally make, after a survey to check the structure and wiring.
