Step and Repeat Backdrops in Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah

Bayan Signage plans, prints and installs logo media walls for launches, galas, press conferences and red carpets. Our designers lay out the logo grid for how photographers actually frame guests, we print on matt media in our Ajman factory, and our crew sets up the wall at the venue and takes a test photo before the first guest arrives.

Step-and-Repeat Backdrops in the UAE

Step and repeat backdrop walls planned for the camera

A step and repeat backdrop is a printed wall covered in a repeating grid of logos, placed behind guests and speakers so the brand appears in every photograph however tightly it is cropped. The name describes the pattern: a logo, a step across, the logo again, with alternate rows offset. Event agencies, hotels, brands, sports clubs, charities and corporate teams in Dubai use them at launches, premieres, galas, press calls and VIP arrival areas.

Printing the wall is the easy part. What decides whether it works is the grid: logo size, spacing and the height of the lowest row, all set against how a photographer frames two people from head to waist. Material matters next, because gloss throws camera flash straight back into the lens. We mock the grid at full scale in our workshop, photograph a member of staff in front of it, adjust the spacing, and only then print on matt media.

Bayan Signage has operated its Ajman factory since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, with 15 years in the UAE market. Our large-format printers handle widths up to 3.2 m in one pass, and our project managers work to venue load-in windows across the emirates. National retail groups and international brands among our 500+ clients rely on us for both permanent signs and the event graphics around them.

Our process

How we produce a step and repeat backdrop in Ajman

  1. Venue and camera position

We confirm where the wall will stand, where photographers will be, the venue's access times and its rules on fire-retardant material and freestanding structures. Wall size follows from how many people will pose together.

  2. Logo grid design

Our designers size logos for a head-to-waist crop, alternate host and partner logos, offset each row by half a step and keep the lowest row above knee height so it is not lost behind guests.

  3. Full-scale mock-up test

A section of the grid is printed at real size and photographed with a person in front of it, framed as an event photographer would. Spacing is adjusted before the full wall is printed.

  4. Printing on matt media

The wall is printed on matt PVC, or UV-printed onto rigid panels and matt laminated, on our large-format machines. PVC is finished with eyelets to suit the frame. Joins are planned so they fall between logos.

  5. Check and pack

Every panel is checked against the approved proof for logo order, colour and spelling, then rolled on cores if PVC or edge-protected and crated if rigid, and labelled in build order.

  6. Installation and test photo

Our crew builds the frame, fits the graphic from the top down, adds ballast and checks stability. A test photo under the event lighting confirms there is no glare before guests arrive.

Expert advice

Advice from our event graphics team

A media wall exists for the photos taken in front of it. Everything we recommend comes back to what the camera will see.

Size logos for the crop, not the room

Large logos look impressive from across a ballroom and are cut in half in every close-up. Photographers usually frame from head to waist, so logos around 250 to 400 mm wide with gaps of 150 to 250 mm put two or three complete logos around each person's head and shoulders. Too small and the grid turns into a texture that nobody can read.

Lock the partner list early

Adding a sponsor after printing means reprinting, and the request nearly always arrives just before the event. Agree the logo list, order and any contractual size rules before the grid is designed. If partners are likely to change, we print the host panels and the partner panels separately, so a late addition costs one panel rather than a whole wall.

Light the guests, not the wall

Even matt media shows a bright patch if a spotlight hits it head on. Ask the lighting team to light the people from the front and slightly above, and keep the wall in soft spill light. Leave at least 1 m between the guests' mark on the carpet and the wall, so their shadows fall on the floor rather than across the logos.

Mind official protocol

Government and official events often have strict rules on the order and size of logos, Arabic and English event names and where national emblems may appear. We follow the organiser's protocol guidelines and ask for written approval of a full-scale proof before printing, because an error on a protocol wall is seen in every press photograph.

Treat outdoor walls as structures

A 3 x 2.4 m wall at a beach club or desert venue catches wind like a sail. Outdoor media walls need heavier ballast, rear bracing and tougher matt PVC, and in exposed positions we recommend a lower wall or mesh panels. We assess the site first and will advise against a tall freestanding wall if the position is not safe.

Pricing

Step and repeat backdrop price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote each media wall from its size, material and support. Send the wall size, venue, event date, logo files and partner list, and you will usually receive an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Wall size

Area drives print cost directly, and larger walls also need bigger frames, more ballast and more set-up time on site.

Material

Matt-laminated rigid panels cost more than matt PVC but give the flattest photographic finish. Matt PVC is more economical, lighter to transport and tougher outdoors.

Support system

Reusing an existing frame is the most economical. New panel frames or truss add cost, with pipe-and-base kits sitting between the two.

Number of logos

Several partners need more layout work and approvals, especially when contracts fix logo sizes or order within the grid.

Installation

Night load-ins, restricted venue access, multi-day events and outdoor walls with extra ballast all affect the installation line.

Late changes

Logo changes after printing starts mean reprinting part or all of the wall. Modular panels reduce the cost of late partner additions.

Approvals

Venue and safety rules for step and repeat backdrop walls

Indoor media walls do not usually need a municipality permit, but hotels and event venues set firm rules. Many ask for fire-retardant material, or documentation for it, for anything hung or standing inside, require freestanding structures to be ballasted or braced, and limit build times to short access windows. Some venues also check that walls do not block fire exits, extinguishers or escape routes.

Outdoor events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are normally covered by the organiser's event permit, which may include rules on temporary structures and branding. We review the venue requirements with you, plan ballast and materials to suit and pass on material fire documentation where it is requested. Requirements vary between venues and events, so we confirm them for your booking before production.

Why Bayan Signage

Why businesses choose Bayan Signage for step and repeat backdrop walls

Grids tested on camera

We photograph a full-scale section of your logo grid with a person in front before printing, so spacing is proven rather than guessed.

Matt print in-house

Matt PVC and rigid panels are printed on our own large-format UV and solvent machines in Ajman, up to 3.2 m wide in one pass, with joins planned between logos.

Crews that test before guests arrive

Our installers build, ballast and check every wall, then take a test photo under the event lighting before handing over to your team.

Protocol handled carefully

Logo order, Arabic and English names and partner rules are checked against the organiser's guidelines, with a full-scale proof signed off first.

Reusable, modular walls

Host and partner panels can be printed separately and stored, so next year's event reuses the frame and most of the graphic.

One project manager

A single contact handles design, approvals, printing, delivery and installation at venues across the UAE, and sends an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

FAQ

Step-and-Repeat Backdrops questions we are asked most

How much does a step and repeat backdrop cost in Dubai?

It depends on wall size, material, support system, number of logos and installation. A 3 x 2.4 m matt PVC wall on a pipe kit costs far less than a 6 m rigid panel wall with a night install. Send us the size, venue, date and logo files, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

What size should a media wall be?

Most walls are 2.4 to 3 m tall and 3 to 6 m wide. Height must clear the tallest guest with space above, so 2.4 m is the practical minimum. For couples and small groups, 3 m wide is enough; for teams and sports squads, 5 to 6 m works better.

Why should a step and repeat be matt?

Matt surfaces diffuse light, so camera flash and spotlights do not create bright reflections. Gloss reflects light straight back into the lens, causing white patches that hide logos and spoil photographs. Matt PVC is the economical, tough choice for most walls, and matt-laminated rigid panels give the flattest face for premium launches.

How big should the logos be?

Logos around 250 to 400 mm wide work for most events, with gaps of 150 to 250 mm between them. That places two or three complete logos around a person's head and shoulders in a typical photo. We test the grid at full scale with a person in front before printing.

Can a media wall be reused?

Yes. Matt PVC walls, rigid panels and fabric SEG graphics on reusable frames can be stored and used again. If partners change, we can replace only the partner panels and keep the main brand panels, which saves money and time compared with printing a completely new wall.

Can you set up a backdrop outdoors?

Yes, with precautions. Outdoor walls need heavier ballast, bracing and tougher matt PVC. In windy or exposed positions, tall freestanding walls are risky, so we assess the site and may recommend a lower wall or mesh panels to reduce wind load.

How quickly can you produce a media wall?

A replacement graphic for an existing frame is the quickest job we do, while new frames, large walls and multiple partners need more time. We give you a realistic schedule with the quote. Tell us the set-up date and venue access time so we plan production and installation around them.

Do you install event backdrops across the UAE?

Yes. We deliver and install media walls at hotels, venues and outdoor event sites in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates, working within each venue's access times and safety rules.
