Gondola-End Signs in the UAE

Gondola end display signage that earns the stop

A gondola end display is the short run of shelving at the end of an aisle, facing the main walkway, and its signage is what turns it from a shelf into a promotion. A typical kit has a header board on the uprights, two side wings that stand proud of the unit to catch shoppers walking along the aisle, a printed kick plate at the base and matching shelf strips. We make them for supermarket and hypermarket chains, pharmacies, electronics and home improvement stores, and for the brands that pay for end-cap space.

The difference between an end cap that sells and one that is ignored is mostly fit and clarity. Panels cut to the exact fixture look like one deliberate display; posters taped to a gondola look like an afterthought. Brackets have to match the upright hole pitch, wings must clear the shelf depth, and anything below knee height has to survive trolleys and mop buckets for the whole campaign. We measure the fixture first and design every part around it.

Bayan Signage has operated its factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has 15 years in the UAE market. Our UV printers handle rigid boards directly, our CNC routers cut foam PVC, ACP and acrylic to ±0.1 mm, and our project managers run store lists for multi-branch rollouts. National retail groups and international brands trust us with exactly this kind of work.

Our process

How we make a gondola end display kit in our Ajman factory

  1. Fixture survey

We measure a typical end in each store format: module width, height, upright hole pitch, shelf depth and base deck. We photograph the uprights too, because gondola brands differ in small details that decide whether brackets fit.

  2. Design to the fixture

Our designers lay out the header, wings and kick plate on a scaled drawing of the real unit, with the Arabic and English headlines sized for the distance shoppers first see the end.

  3. Printing on rigid board

Graphics are printed directly onto foam PVC, ACP or acrylic on our UV printers, or onto backlit film for lightbox headers, with anti-scuff laminate on the parts that get knocked.

  4. CNC cutting and brackets

Panels are CNC-routed to shape, including die-cut wing shapes, and brackets are made to suit the upright hole pitch. Lit headers are wired and tested at full brightness.

  5. Pilot fit and kitting

The first kit is fitted on a real store gondola to confirm every part. Kits are then packed per store, labelled by fixture, with a photo fitting sheet in each box.

  6. Rollout and removal

Store staff fit tool-free kits in minutes, or our crews fit them after closing time across branches. At the end of the campaign we can collect and dispose of old kits.

Specification

Gondola end display specification

The specification follows the campaign length. This is where we start for a typical multi-store promotion, and longer-life upgrades are priced line by line.

PartOur standardUpgrade optionsWhy it matters
Header board5 mm foam PVC, direct UV print3 mm ACP, acrylic or a slim LED lightboxFoam PVC is light and economical for weeks of use; ACP and acrylic last for years and can take new graphics.
Header bracketsBrackets or legs to suit the upright hole pitchUniversal brackets for mixed gondola brandsCorrect brackets keep the header level and stop it lifting when shelves are restocked.
Side wings5 mm foam PVC, printed both sidesDie-cut shapes, 3 mm acrylic for premium endsWings are read side-on from the main aisle, so they carry the brand when the header is out of view.
Kick plate3 mm ACP with laminateThick PVC or textured anti-scuff filmThe base takes trolley, shoe and mop strikes every day, so a soft material looks tired almost as soon as the campaign starts.
Back panelPrinted panel on the gondola backMagnetic sheet, or a fabric SEG lightbox backA full back panel hides pegboard holes and gives the products a clean, branded background.
PackingPer-store kit with fitting sheetPer-fixture labelling for mixed formatsClear packing is what lets store staff fit a kit correctly without calling for help.

Expert advice

Advice from our retail campaigns team

End caps are paid space, and brands rarely get a second chance during a campaign. These are the points we settle before we print a single kit.

Photograph the uprights before you design

The quickest way to waste a print run is a header bracket that does not fit. Upright hole pitch, slot shape and the gap between the end shelf and the upright differ between gondola brands, and a chain may run three brands across its branches. A clear photo of an upright with a tape measure beside it, from each store format, lets us design brackets that drop in first time.

Write one offer that reads from 15 m

Shoppers first see the end from roughly 10 to 20 m along the main aisle. A headline of 60 to 100 mm cap height reads at that range; supporting lines can drop to 30 to 40 mm. That leaves room for one offer and one visual, not a list of five products. If the header needs a paragraph to explain itself, the end cap is doing the wrong job.

Use tougher materials below the knee

Above head height, foam PVC is fine for most campaigns. Below about 500 mm, trolleys, baskets and cleaning equipment hit the unit constantly. We specify ACP or thick PVC with laminate for kick plates and the lower part of wings, even when the rest of the kit is lightweight, because that is where tired-looking end caps start.

Keep the frame, change the face

Brands that take the same end cap month after month spend less over a year by investing once in an ACP or lightbox header frame and changing only a magnetic or printed face. Pharmacies running a monthly health theme are a good example. The first kit costs more; every campaign after it costs a print and a fitting visit.

Stay within the gondola's own height

We avoid adding more than about 300 to 400 mm above the uprights. Taller headers look top-heavy, catch on shelf restocking and can come close to sprinkler heads and smoke detectors. Keeping the kit within that envelope also makes retailer approval much more likely, which matters more than an extra few centimetres of artwork.

Pricing

Gondola end display price in Dubai: what affects the cost

Every kit is quoted from the fixture and the campaign, not from a price list. Send the number of stores, fixture photos and your artwork or brief, and we send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Parts per end

A header alone is quick to make. A full kit with wings, back panel, kick plate and shelf strips multiplies printing, cutting and packing per store.

Material and campaign length

Foam PVC suits short campaigns at lower cost. ACP, acrylic and lightbox headers cost more but last many months and can be reused.

Fixture variety

If branches use different gondola brands or sizes, brackets and panels must be adapted for each format, adding design and fabrication steps.

Print and finishing

Direct print, contour shapes, double-sided wings and anti-scuff laminate each add a little to the cost of every kit.

Lighting

Illuminated headers need LED modules, a driver and a safe power feed to the top of the gondola, usually coordinated with the store electrician.

Rollout logistics

Packing per branch, delivery across the emirates, out-of-hours fitting and collection of old kits are priced separately and can be significant on large rollouts.

Approvals

Retailer approvals and fire clearance for a gondola end display

In-store end caps do not usually need a municipal permit, but they do need approval from the retailer. Most chains set rules for suppliers on header height, materials, lighting, the space left for the store's own price tickets and how long a kit may stay up, and many ask to see a drawing or sample first. We prepare the drawings and adapt the kit to each retailer's guidelines.

Fire safety still applies inside the store. Headers and wings should not block sprinklers, smoke detectors, exit signs or the clear aisle width the store needs under Dubai Civil Defence and the relevant authority in other emirates, and malls add their own rules. We design within the store's existing layout and confirm current requirements with the store or mall team.

FAQ

Gondola-End Signs questions we are asked most

How much does a gondola end display cost in Dubai?

It depends on the number of parts per end, the materials, the number of stores and fixture formats, lighting and how the kits are delivered and fitted. A foam PVC header and wings for one store costs far less than a lit, multi-part kit for a whole chain. Send fixture photos, store count and artwork, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

What is a gondola end display?

It is the short shelving unit at the end of a supermarket or retail aisle, facing the main walkway, used for promotions and featured products. Its signage usually includes a header board above the shelves, side wings, a kick plate at the base and shelf strips, all fixed to the existing uprights without tools.

How long does a gondola end kit last?

Foam PVC kits typically look good for several months of normal store traffic, which suits most promotions. ACP, acrylic and lightbox headers last for years, and many brands keep the frame and change only the printed face. Corrugated board is cheaper but scuffs and absorbs moisture within weeks.

Can one kit fit different gondola brands?

Often, but not always. Upright hole pitch and module widths vary between brands, so we either design universal brackets that suit several types or make a small variant for each store format. A photo of an upright from each format lets us confirm this before printing.

Can a gondola end header be illuminated?

Yes. We build slim LED lightbox headers with replaceable printed graphics for permanent brand ends, and fabric SEG lightboxes for a large lit back panel. They need a safe power feed to the top of the gondola, which we coordinate with the store's electrician and the retailer's approval process.

Is a gondola end better than a floor display stand?

A gondola end uses fixture space the store already has, holds more stock and looks part of the store, which retailers prefer. A freestanding stand or standee can go anywhere, including stores with no gondolas, but takes floor space and holds less. Many launches use both, with a standee beside the end.

Do you design gondola end graphics in Arabic?

Yes. Most of our headers carry Arabic and English. We lay out both scripts together and give the Arabic headline a little more height where needed, so it reads at the same distance as the English rather than being squeezed into a corner.

Do you deliver and fit gondola ends across the UAE?

Yes. We pack kits in Ajman and deliver to stores in all seven emirates. Store teams can fit tool-free kits themselves, or our crews fit branches after closing in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates and collect old kits.
