Price Display Signs in the UAE

Price display signs that customers trust

Price display signs are signs whose main job is to show a number clearly and keep it current. At the simple end that means acrylic ticket holders on a counter; in the middle sit boards where staff slide printed digits into channels or move magnetic numbers; at the top are LED rate boards with seven-segment digits updated by keypad, remote or app. They are for jewellers showing gold rates, exchange houses, fuel kiosks, fish and vegetable markets, car washes, mobile shops and any retailer whose price is the headline.

In these businesses a wrong or stale number is not a design flaw; it starts arguments at the counter and, in some trades, attracts questions from inspectors. A good board is readable from where the customer decides, labelled without ambiguity in Arabic and English, bright enough behind shopfront glass yet dimmed at night, and simple enough that staff actually update it. We spend as much time on how the board will be updated as on how it looks.

Bayan Signage has run its factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman since 2016, as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has 15 years in the UAE. We CNC-cut the lenses and faces, build and powder-coat the aluminium cabinets, print the line labels and assemble and test the LED wiring in-house. The digit modules and controllers are specialist components that we select and integrate rather than manufacture.

Our process

How we build price display signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Survey and reading distance

We note where customers stand when they read the price, whether the board faces through glass, how much sun it gets and where power and data can reach. The visit is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Line layout and labels

Our designers set the number of lines, the digit count per line, the label text in Arabic and English and the digit height, then show the board at full size against the shop elevation.

  3. Cabinet and face fabrication

Aluminium cabinets are cut, folded and powder-coated, lenses are CNC-routed to ±0.1 mm, and line labels are printed in-house on UV-stable media.

  4. Digit integration and wiring

Our electricians mount the LED digit modules, wire the power supply and controller, and set up the keypad, remote or app so values stay stored if power drops.

  5. Segment test and inspection

Every board runs all digits through every segment and brightness level in our test area, checked against the approved layout before it is packed.

  6. Installation and staff handover

We fix the board, connect power, set dimming for the site and show the staff who will update it how to change each line, then leave a short written guide.

Expert advice

Advice from our estimating team

A price board that is wrong, unreadable or never updated does more harm than no board at all. These are the questions we ask before specifying one.

Decide who will update it, and how often

Before choosing LED or manual, name the person who will change the numbers. A gold rate that moves several times a day needs an LED board with a keypad or app at the counter, used by the same staff member each time. A market price that changes weekly is fine on slide-in tiles. If nobody owns the task, a board showing yesterday's rate is worse than a printed sign without one.

Size the digits from the furthest customer

Use around 25 mm of digit height for every 3 m of reading distance. A gold board read from inside the shop at 4 to 6 m works with 50 to 75 mm digits. One read through the window from the pavement or car park at 15 to 25 m needs 125 to 200 mm, and roadside boards more again. Decide the furthest point that matters, then size up from there.

Treat shopfront glass as a separate problem

Morning or afternoon sun on glazing washes out ordinary LEDs and fades printed labels within weeks. Window-facing boards need high-brightness modules, a smoked lens, UV-stable labels and ventilation behind the glass. They also need automatic dimming, or they glare at passers-by after dark. We check the sun on the shopfront at the survey for this reason.

Plan the lines you will add later

Jewellers add 18K, exchange houses add currencies, markets add products. A board built with exactly today's lines often has to be replaced within a year. We usually suggest one or two spare lines, or changeable label strips, so the board can grow without new fabrication. It costs little at the start and a lot later.

Make every digit unambiguous

For manual boards, use bold, slightly condensed digits with generous spacing so a 1 never reads as a 7 and a 6 never reads as an 8. Keep spare tiles in a labelled box beside the board, because a missing 5 is usually replaced with whatever is nearest. On LED boards, test every segment at handover so a dead segment never turns an 8 into a 0.

Pricing

Price display signs cost in Dubai: what affects the price

Every board is quoted from its layout. Send the number of lines, the digits per line, the reading distance and a photo of the wall or shopfront, and we send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Board type

Ticket holders and manual digit boards are the most economical. LED rate boards add digit modules, a controller and electrical work.

Number of lines and digits

Each LED digit is a component with its own wiring, so a twelve-line exchange board costs much more than a four-line gold board.

Digit height and brightness

Larger digits use more LEDs per segment, and high-brightness modules for window boards cost more than indoor modules.

Update method

A wired keypad or remote is simplest. App, Wi-Fi or PC software control adds setup and configuration time.

Cabinet and finish

Single-sided wall boards are leanest. Double-sided, hanging or custom-shaped cabinets and special finishes add fabrication.

Installation

Fixing behind shopfront glass, power runs, mall night work and multi-branch rollouts are priced separately from the board.

Approvals

Consumer protection and mall rules for price display signs

UAE consumer protection rules generally expect prices to be displayed clearly and to match what the customer pays, and the economic department in each emirate inspects shops. Some trades, such as gold and currency exchange, may have additional expectations about how rates are shown. A board that is easy to read and easy to update helps keep the counter and the sign in agreement. We confirm the current position for your trade.

Inside malls and some communities, landlords limit very bright or moving displays visible from the common areas. Static digits that change occasionally are normally accepted, but window-facing boards and screens may need approval under the mall's design criteria. We check those criteria and prepare drawings for landlord approval before fixing anything behind a mall shopfront.

Why Bayan Signage

Why businesses choose Bayan Signage for price display signs

Cabinets made in-house

Cabinets, lenses, labels and wiring are produced at our Ajman factory, so the board is built to your exact line layout rather than a catalogue size.

Electricians on the team

Our own electricians integrate the LED digits, power supplies and controllers, and test every segment before the board leaves the factory.

Designed for your staff

We choose the update method around the people who will use it, then train them at handover and leave a written guide.

Bilingual, unambiguous labels

Line labels are laid out in Arabic and English together, so customers never confuse one rate with another.

Itemised quotes

Board, components, controller, installation and electrical work are listed separately, so you can compare like for like.

FAQ

Price Display Signs questions we are asked most

How much does a price display board cost in Dubai?

It depends on the board type, the number of lines and digits, digit height and brightness, the update method and the installation. A set of acrylic ticket holders costs very little compared with a twelve-line LED exchange board behind a shopfront. Send the layout, reading distance and a photo, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

What digit size do I need on a rate board?

Allow around 25 mm of digit height for every 3 m of reading distance. Boards read inside the shop at 4 to 6 m work with 50 to 75 mm digits; boards read through the window from 15 to 25 m need 125 to 200 mm. We mock the board up at full size against your shop before production.

How do staff update an LED gold rate board?

Usually with a wired keypad or infrared remote at the counter, or with a mobile app or PC software over Wi-Fi. The controller stores the values, so the board shows the last rate after a power cut. We set up the method that suits your staff and train them at handover.

Is an LED price board better than a manual board?

LED boards suit prices that change several times a day and need to be read from a distance or through glass. Manual slide-in or magnetic boards cost less, need no power and suit prices that change daily or weekly. The deciding question is usually how often the price changes and who will change it.

Can a rate board show Arabic labels or Arabic-Indic numerals?

Yes. Line labels are normally bilingual, printed in Arabic and English. Most boards use Western digits, but some businesses prefer Arabic-Indic numerals alongside them, which affects module choice and layout, so tell us at the start.

Can a price board be placed behind a shop window?

Yes, but it needs high-brightness LED modules, a smoked lens to keep contrast, ventilation behind the glass and automatic dimming for the evening. Standard indoor modules wash out in direct sun. We check the shopfront orientation at the survey and specify the board for it.

Do you repair price display boards?

Yes. Failed segments, power supplies and controllers can usually be replaced without changing the whole board, and faded labels can be reprinted. Our LED sign repair team handles boards we made and many we did not, across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates.

Do you install price display signs across the UAE?

Yes. We build in Ajman and install in all seven emirates. The site visit is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and multi-branch rollouts for jewellery or exchange chains are coordinated by one project manager.
