Classroom Signs in the UAE

Classroom door signs built for a school year

Classroom door signs identify every teaching space in a school or university: general classrooms, science labs, art and music rooms, libraries, lecture theatres and seminar rooms. In a school the sign usually combines a room number, a function such as Year 4 Blue or Chemistry Lab 2, and sometimes the class teacher. In higher education it carries a room code that ties into the timetable. Principals, facilities managers and fit-out contractors buy them in sets of fifty to several hundred, and they all want the same thing: signs that are still correct after the summer reshuffle.

That comes down to splitting the permanent from the changing. The room number and school crest sit on a stiff back panel; the year group, subject or teacher sits on a printed insert behind a polycarbonate window that opens only from the top or with a tool. Get the split wrong and a school replaces signs every year or lives with wrong names. Our factory CNC-cuts every panel and window to the same tolerance, so any insert fits any door in the building.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has operated in the UAE for 15 years, and our Ajman factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2 has been running since 2016. Schools work with one project manager from survey to handover. Our designers set Arabic and English at matching weight and check spellings with a native reader, and the crew that assembles your signs installs them in the holiday window you choose.

Our process

How we make classroom door signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Room audit and survey

We walk every corridor, record door types, glazed partitions and wall finishes, and match room numbers to your timetable system. Surveys are free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Sign family design

Our designers build one layout for classrooms, then variants for labs, offices and early years, with your crest, colours and bilingual text set at production size.

  3. Sample on a real door

We fix one finished sign in your corridor so leadership can check it at student height and adult height, try an insert change and approve before the full run.

  4. CNC cutting and UV printing

Panels and windows are CNC-routed to ±0.1 mm, corners rounded and edges polished. Faces are UV-printed and checked against the approved artwork for colour and spelling.

  5. Insert template and stock

We hand over an insert template set up with your fonts and layouts, cut blank stock and the opening tool, and show the office team how changes work.

  6. Holiday installation

The crew installs to a jig at one consistent height, using security screws on blockwork and mechanical stops on glazed partitions, usually in July or August.

Expert advice

Advice from our school signage team

School signage is judged every September, when the timetable changes and parents walk the corridors. These are the points we settle first.

Never make a teacher's name permanent

Staff turnover in UAE schools can be significant from one year to the next, and classes move between rooms as year groups grow. Names fixed into the panel mean replacing signs or leaving the wrong ones up. We put anything that changes, teacher, class or subject, on a printed insert, and keep only the room number, crest and colour permanent.

Agree room codes with the timetabler

If the number on the door does not match the timetable, students and cover teachers get lost on the first morning. A logic of block, floor, room, such as B2.14, works for most campuses. We ask for the final code list from whoever runs the timetable before any artwork is drawn, not after installation.

Add a lower panel only where it helps

In early years and lower primary, a second panel at 900 to 1,100 mm with a picture and colour that four-year-olds recognise is worth it. In secondary corridors it just adds clutter. The main sign stays centred around 1,500 mm, which adults and older students scan naturally.

Plan installation for the summer

July and August are the natural window for school works, and the hottest months. Air conditioning is often off during holiday works, so we choose adhesives and fixings for hot, empty buildings. Start design in spring: approvals, sampling and production all need to finish before teachers return, and we set out that programme with the quote.

Pricing

Classroom door sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

Every school is priced from its room list, so there is no fixed price per sign. Send the room schedule or floor plans and a photo of a typical corridor, and we will usually send an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Number of rooms

Classroom signs repeat, so a full building costs far less per sign than a handful made for a single new block.

Changeable components

Polycarbonate windows, key-opening frames and two-row inserts add parts and assembly compared with fixed printed signs.

Panel material

Printed ACP is the most economical. Thick acrylic, brushed aluminium and raised numerals add material and finishing time.

Raised numerals and contrast panels

Raised acrylic numerals and two-colour panels need extra CNC cutting, bonding and proof checks, and add cost for the rooms where they are used.

Variants and departments

Each additional layout, such as labs, early years or offices, adds design and setup time.

Installation window

Installing a whole school in a short holiday window may need a larger crew, which affects the installation programme.

Approvals

Classroom door sign rules for UAE schools

Interior classroom signs do not usually need a municipality permit. Private schools are inspected by bodies such as KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi and SPEA in Sharjah against frameworks that consider safety and the learning environment, and clear, consistent room identification supports that. We confirm any specific requirement your school has been given.

Civil Defence requirements typically expect evacuation plans and clear exit routes in teaching buildings, which is why many schools mount a plan inside each classroom door. The Dubai Universal Design Code shapes expectations for clear, high-contrast room identification in new public buildings. Requirements vary by emirate and campus, so we check them for your site.

Why Bayan Signage

Why schools choose Bayan Signage for classroom door signs

Made in our own factory

Panels, windows and inserts are CNC-cut, printed and assembled in Ajman, so extra signs for a new block match the first batch exactly.

Bilingual by design

Arabic and English are set as one composition at matching weight, and Arabic is checked by a native reader before printing, because parents notice errors.

Your office stays in control

You receive the insert template, blank stock and a demonstration, so each new academic year is a printing job, not a sign order.

Safe for children

Rounded corners, polished edges and tamper-resistant fixings are our standard for any sign below about 1.8 m.

One project manager

A single contact runs survey, design, sampling, production and holiday installation, and keeps your drawings for every future phase.

Trusted by 500+ clients

Educational groups, national retail groups and international brands return to our factory, and most of our work comes from referrals.

FAQ

Classroom Signs questions we are asked most

How much do classroom door signs cost in Dubai?

The cost depends on the number of rooms, the panel material, changeable windows, any raised numerals and the installation window. A full building of identical printed ACP signs costs much less per door than a small set of thick acrylic signs with raised numbers. Send your room list for an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can our school update classroom signs itself?

Yes. We supply an insert template with your fonts and bilingual layouts, blank stock cut to size and a small opening tool. The school office prints the new year group, subject or teacher name and slides it in. The room number and crest stay fixed, so nothing else changes.

What material is best for school classroom signs?

For most schools, an ACP or thick acrylic back panel with a polycarbonate window over the insert works best. ACP is light and stiff, acrylic looks more premium, and polycarbonate resists impact far better than acrylic. Corners are rounded and edges polished for busy corridors.

Should classroom signs be in Arabic and English?

In almost every UAE school, yes. We usually give both scripts equal visual weight and can put Arabic first if the school prefers. All Arabic is checked by a native reader before printing, and room numbers stay in Western numerals, which every student and visitor recognises.

How do you make classroom signs easier to read for every student?

We size the room number for the corridor length, keep a strong contrast between numerals and panel, add simple pictograms for labs, toilets and offices, and fix every sign at the same height beside the door handle. Codes such as the Dubai Universal Design Code shape expectations in new buildings, so we check what applies to your campus before the artwork is final.

How long does a school signage package take?

We give you a realistic schedule with the quote, based on the room count, the number of variants and any raised numerals. Most schools install during the summer holiday, so starting design and sampling in spring leaves time to fabricate and fit before teachers return.

Can you match signs in an older building?

Yes. We work from your brand guidelines or photos and measurements of existing signs, matching colours, crest, fonts and mounting heights. If the original profile is no longer available, we make a sample for approval, and we can replace signs block by block across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and the other emirates.
