Fire Safety Signs in the UAE

Fire safety signs made to your fire schedule

Fire safety signs, as we use the term on this page, are the red fire equipment signs and the blue fire precaution signs: the markers above extinguishers, hose reels, manual call points, fire blankets and fire telephones, plus instructions such as 'Fire door, keep shut'. Facility managers, fit-out contractors, MEP teams and building owners in Dubai order them for new buildings, refits and Civil Defence inspections. Green escape route signs are a separate family with their own page.

A fire sign looks simple, and that is why it is so often done badly. The common failures we see at handover are old symbol styles, English-only text, thin vinyl lifting off dusty walls and glow signs that never charge because they sit in a dark store room. We print the current ISO 7010 symbol set, typeset the Arabic properly, choose the substrate for each wall and check every photoluminescent sign glows after charging before it leaves our factory.

Bayan Signage has manufactured signs in Ajman since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has 15 years in the UAE market. Our technical draftsmen regularly prepare Dubai Civil Defence and municipality submission packages, so they read fire drawings and equipment schedules every week. For a building with hundreds of signs, that familiarity is what keeps the count, the sizes and the wording right first time.

Our process

How we produce fire safety signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Schedule or survey

We work from your fire consultant's equipment schedule and drawings. Where none exist, we walk the building, count every extinguisher, hose reel and call point and mark each sign position on a floor plan.

  2. Artwork and wording

Our draftsmen set each sign with the ISO 7010 symbol, the supplementary legend in Arabic and English and the extinguisher type where needed, then send a sign schedule with sizes and quantities for approval.

  3. Printing and cutting

Signs are printed with UV-stable inks onto photoluminescent sheet, rigid PVC or aluminium, laminated where exposed, and CNC-routed or laser-cut to size with radiused corners on metal signs.

  4. Glow and colour check

Every batch is checked against the approved schedule for symbol, wording and size. Photoluminescent signs are charged under light and checked in darkness to confirm an even glow.

  5. Installation to the plan

Our crew fixes signs above each item at a consistent height using a laser level, choosing tape, screws or column banding to suit the surface, and bonding rather than drilling on fire doors.

  6. Handover documents

You receive a marked-up plan showing every sign location and type, which your facilities team and the fire maintenance contractor can check against the equipment register at inspection.

Expert advice

Advice from our safety signage team

Fire signs are cheap compared with the equipment they mark, so it pays to get the schedule right once. These are the checks we make on every building.

Size from the longest sight line

A working rule for safety signs is about 25 mm of symbol height for every metre of viewing distance in normal light. A sign that must be spotted 10 m down an aisle needs a symbol of around 250 mm, not the 150 mm sticker that suits a cabinet door. We size each zone from its longest approach rather than picking one size for the whole building.

Go projecting in long corridors and aisles

A flat sign on a wall or column can only be seen from the front. In a warehouse with 8 m racking or a long hotel corridor, a double-sided projecting sign at 2.5 to 3 m on a bracket can be spotted from both directions long before the extinguisher itself. Keep brackets clear of door swings, sprinkler heads and trolley paths.

Put glow signs where the lights are

Photoluminescent material only glows if it has been charged. A sign in an unlit store room or a plant room where lights stay off gives nothing in an emergency. Either keep the sign close to permanent lighting, or move the position. A simple test after a normal working day, lights off for a minute, shows which signs work.

Label the extinguisher type

A general extinguisher sign shows where it is; a type label below says whether it is water, foam, dry powder, CO2 or wet chemical. That matters most in kitchens, server rooms and electrical rooms. When the maintenance contractor swaps a powder unit for CO2, the label must change too, which is why we print equipment numbers on signs for larger sites.

Never drill a fire door

Fire doors are certified assemblies, and screwing through the leaf can affect their rating. 'Fire door, keep shut' signs should be bonded with a suitable adhesive or applied as self-adhesive vinyl unless the door manufacturer permits mechanical fixing. On glass fire doors, the sign usually goes on the frame or on a manifestation band.

Pricing

Fire safety signs price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote fire signage from the schedule, so the price reflects your building. Send the equipment schedule or floor plans, required materials and your inspection date, and you will usually receive an itemised quote within 24 hours.

Quantity and mix

300 identical extinguisher signs produce far more efficiently than 60 different signs in small numbers. Grouping sizes across floors brings the unit cost down.

Photoluminescent grade

Glow material costs more than standard PVC, and higher-performance grades more again. Specifying it only where required keeps the budget sensible.

Substrate and format

Vinyl is cheapest and rigid PVC sits in the middle. Aluminium and double-sided projecting signs with brackets add material and fabrication time.

Survey and schedule

Without an equipment schedule, someone has to walk and count the building. A survey adds time up front but prevents missed and duplicated signs.

Installation access

High warehouse columns, occupied hotels, night work and many floors need ladders, lifts or extra shifts, which shows in the installation line.

Approvals

Civil Defence and ISO 7010 rules for fire safety signs

Fire signage is part of what Dubai Civil Defence and the civil defence authorities in other emirates usually check before issuing or renewing a building's fire completion or safety certificate, under the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code. In practice that means ISO 7010 symbols, Arabic and English text and, in many locations, photoluminescent materials so signs remain visible if power fails. Landlords and mall fire teams may add their own requirements.

Your fire consultant's drawings normally set the positions and types; we produce and install to them, or flag anything that looks missing or inconsistent. Glow performance and the exact signs required can depend on the building's use and occupancy, and the code is updated from time to time, so we confirm the current expectation for your building before production.

Why Bayan Signage

Why businesses choose Bayan Signage for fire safety signs

Draftsmen who read fire drawings

Our technical draftsmen prepare Civil Defence and municipality submissions, so equipment schedules, legends and sign positions are checked by people who know what inspectors look for.

Made in our own factory

Printing, laminating, CNC routing and laser cutting all happen in Ajman, so large schedules and late additions do not wait on an outside supplier.

Every glow sign tested

Photoluminescent signs are charged and checked in darkness before dispatch, and every batch is signed off against the approved schedule.

Arabic set properly

Legends are typeset, not machine translated, because one wrong word repeated on hundreds of fire signs undermines the whole set at inspection.

Installation with a record

Our crews install across all seven emirates and hand over a marked-up plan that matches every sign to its equipment location.

Itemised, schedule-based quotes

Signs, materials, survey and installation are listed separately, usually within 24 hours, so you can compare quotes line by line.

FAQ

Fire Safety Signs questions we are asked most

How much do fire safety signs cost in Dubai?

It depends on the number and mix of signs, the material, the size and the installation access. A floor of standard photoluminescent PVC signs costs far less than a warehouse of aluminium projecting signs fixed at height. Send us the equipment schedule or floor plans and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Do fire signs in Dubai have to be photoluminescent?

In many buildings, yes. Civil Defence typically expects fire equipment and escape signs to remain visible if normal lighting fails, and photoluminescent signs are the usual way to achieve that. The requirement and glow grade can depend on the building type, so we work from your fire consultant's specification and confirm the current expectation for your site.

What colour are fire equipment signs?

Under ISO 7010, fire equipment signs are white symbols on a red square or rectangle. Green is used for escape routes, first aid and safe conditions, blue for mandatory actions such as 'Fire door, keep shut', and yellow for warnings. Keeping those meanings consistent lets people understand a sign at a glance.

How high should a fire extinguisher sign be mounted?

Usually with the bottom edge about 1.8 to 2.2 m above the floor, directly above the extinguisher. In warehouses and car parks it is often higher, around 2.5 to 3 m, so it clears racking, vehicles and stacked goods and stays visible from the main approach.

Can fire signs match our interior design?

Within limits. The symbol, colours and proportions should stay as ISO 7010 defines them, but the substrate and fixing can change: acrylic with stand-off fixings works well in hotel and office lobbies. We will not recolour a fire sign to match a brand, because that defeats its purpose.

How quickly can you produce a full set of fire signs?

The programme is confirmed with your quote, and production starts once the sign schedule and wording are approved. Standard bilingual signs for an office or retail fit-out are the quickest; large buildings, custom wording and big photoluminescent quantities take longer, so send the schedule well before your inspection date.

Do you supply fire safety signs outside Dubai?

Yes. We manufacture in Ajman and install fire signage in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The site visit is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

How do we maintain fire signs?

Wipe them with a damp cloth and mild detergent; solvents cloud laminates. Keep photoluminescent signs uncovered and near working lights. At every fire equipment service, check that each sign still matches the extinguisher beneath it, because units get swapped and moved more often than people expect. We can replace individual signs from our records.
