No Smoking Signs in the UAE

No smoking signs that people notice and obey

A no smoking sign is a prohibition sign: a red ring and diagonal bar over a black cigarette on a white field, usually with 'No smoking' in Arabic and English underneath. Almost every business in the UAE needs a few of them, at public entrances, in stairwells, toilets and car park lobbies, and in the back-of-house corners where staff assume a quick cigarette is tolerated. At fuel stations, LPG cages, kitchen gas yards and warehouses full of cardboard, the same symbol stops being a courtesy notice and becomes a fire safety instruction.

Most no smoking signs fail in small, predictable ways. Cheap calendered vinyl on a west-facing door shrinks and leaves a dirty rim within a year. The red fades to pink, and a pink ring stops reading as a rule. Designers redraw the symbol in gold or grey to suit an interior and it loses its meaning. We avoid all three by printing on cast vinyl with UV laminate, keeping the ISO 7010 proportions untouched, and changing the material, not the symbol, when a lobby needs something more refined.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE for 15 years, and our Ajman factory has made safety and building signage since 2016. Large-format printing, laminating, CNC routing and assembly all happen under one roof at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2. That matters when a hotel orders three hundred room signs and fifty stair signs: every piece comes from the same print run, in the same red, checked against the same approved artwork.

Our process

How we make no smoking signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Walk-through and sign schedule

We walk the building with your facilities or HSE lead and list every door, stair, lobby and hazard area that needs a sign. The survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Artwork to ISO 7010 proportions

Our designers set the symbol at its correct proportions and place the Arabic and English text below it. You approve one master layout and a schedule of sizes before anything is printed.

  3. Printing and laminating

Signs are printed on our large-format printers onto 3M cast vinyl, then laminated with a UV-resistant film so the red stays red on sunny glass and outdoor forecourts.

  4. CNC cutting and mounting

Acrylic, aluminium and ACP blanks are CNC-routed to ±0.1 mm with rounded corners and pre-drilled fixing holes, then the print is applied and edges are trimmed clean.

  5. Quality check against artwork

Every sign is checked against the approved artwork for size, colour, spelling and orientation, and the batch is labelled by floor or zone so installation follows the schedule.

  6. Installation at the right height

Our crew degreases glass, applies vinyl with a level and squeegee, fixes plaques with stand-offs or tape, and rivets or bands outdoor signs clear of nozzles and vehicles.

Specification

No smoking sign specification

This is our starting specification for a typical commercial building. We adjust it for fuel areas, premium interiors and the landlord's standards, and every change is itemised on the quote.

Expert advice

Advice from our safety signage team

These points come up on almost every no smoking sign order we review. Each one costs nothing to get right on the schedule and is a nuisance to fix after installation.

Sign the fixed panel on sliding doors

On automatic sliding doors a sticker on the moving leaf slides out of view the moment the doors open, which is exactly when people walk through. We put the sign on the fixed side panel at eye level, roughly 1.5 m to its centre, so it stays in front of the visitor as they enter. On frameless glass with push plates, we place it just above the plate, where hands and eyes already go.

Size fuel-area signs for the driver, not the pedestrian

At a petrol station or LPG cage the sign has to register from a car before anyone steps out. A 150 mm door sticker does nothing there. As a rule of thumb, we specify 300 x 400 mm as a minimum on pump islands and 400 x 600 mm on the forecourt boundary or tanker point, with the symbol taking at least half the sign height.

Change the material, never the symbol

A fine dining restaurant or five-star lobby may dislike a red sticker. Recolouring the ring gold or grey is the wrong answer, because it stops reading as a prohibition. Keep the red ring and bar at their proper proportions and make the sign itself more refined: second-surface print behind clear acrylic on brushed stand-offs, or a small cast vinyl at eye level on the door.

Decide now whether vaping is covered

Staff will be asked whether e-cigarettes count. If your policy bans them, say so on the sign with 'No smoking or vaping' or a second symbol, in both languages. It is far easier to add one line at the artwork stage than to reprint two hundred signs later, and it ends the argument at the door.

Keep the smoking area away from the door

If the site has a permitted outdoor smoking area, place it at least several metres from entrances, air intakes and any fuel or gas store, and sign the route to it. A smoking shelter next to the front door pulls smoke straight back inside and makes your no smoking sign look like a suggestion.

Pricing

No smoking sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We price from your sign schedule, so there is no fixed list. Send the number of doors and areas, a few photos and any landlord standard, and you will usually receive an itemised quote, separating materials, labour and installation, within 24 hours.

Material

Vinyl door stickers are the most economical. Acrylic plaques on stand-offs and large outdoor aluminium panels cost more per sign but last much longer in heavy use.

Quantity

Hundreds of identical signs for hotel rooms or stair doors share setup and print time, so the unit cost drops sharply compared with a handful.

Wording and layout

Standard bilingual no smoking text is quick. Combined prohibition boards, extra languages or brand-styled layouts add artwork and checking time.

Size

Fuel-area and forecourt panels need thicker substrates and stronger fixings than a door sign, which adds material and fixing time.

Fixing method

Tape and direct application are fastest. Stand-offs need drilling and a template; rivets and banding on canopy columns need access equipment.

Installation spread

One entrance takes minutes. Signing every floor, stair and car park level across an occupied building takes planned labour and coordination with tenants.

Approvals

No smoking sign rules and Civil Defence expectations

UAE federal tobacco control rules and municipal regulations restrict smoking in most enclosed public places, including offices, malls, restaurants and public buildings, and inspectors usually expect a visible no smoking sign at each public entrance and inside. Hotels, malls and managed towers often add their own sign standard on top. Details differ by emirate and by type of premises, so we confirm what applies to your site during the survey.

At fuel stations, LPG installations and gas cylinder stores, Dubai Civil Defence and the fuel operator generally expect prominent no smoking and no naked flame signs at the hazard boundary. These are treated as fire safety signs, so size, durability and position matter more than looks. Our draftsmen can include them in the safety signage layout for your inspection, and we check current requirements for the exact location.

Why Bayan Signage

Why businesses choose Bayan Signage for no smoking signs

Made in our own factory

Printing, laminating, CNC routing and mounting all happen at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman, so colour and size stay consistent across every sign in a building.

Bilingual layouts done properly

Arabic and English are set as one composition, and the Arabic is checked before printing, so the text reads naturally and never crowds the symbol.

Signs placed where smoking happens

We survey stairs, loading bays and car park lobbies as well as the front door, because that is where no smoking signs actually earn their place.

One team for the whole safety set

Fire, exit, assembly point and hazard signs can be made in the same style and installed by the same crew, with one project manager from brief to handover.

Itemised, honest quotes

Materials, labour and installation are listed separately, usually within 24 hours, so you can compare like for like and order in phases if needed.

FAQ

No Smoking Signs questions we are asked most

Are no smoking signs required in the UAE?

In most enclosed public places, yes. Federal tobacco control rules and municipal regulations restrict indoor smoking in offices, malls, restaurants and public buildings, and inspectors normally expect clear no smoking signs at entrances and inside. Fuel stations and gas stores have stricter expectations from Civil Defence and operators. Requirements differ between emirates and premises, so we confirm them for your site.

How much does a no smoking sign cost in Dubai?

It depends on the material, size, quantity and fixing. A cast vinyl door sticker costs far less than a large aluminium forecourt panel, and a building-wide set of identical signs is much cheaper per piece than a few one-offs. Send us your list of locations and photos, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

What should a no smoking sign say?

The ISO 7010 no smoking symbol with 'No smoking' in Arabic and English covers most premises. Many hotels, offices and malls now add 'or vaping', and fuel and gas areas commonly add 'No naked flames'. Keep the text to one or two short lines, because the symbol does most of the work and long sentences are not read.

Where should no smoking signs be placed?

At every public entrance at eye level, on the fixed panel of sliding doors, and inside wherever people might assume smoking is allowed: stairwells, toilets, lift and car park lobbies, loading bays and hotel rooms. At fuel and gas sites, signs belong at the edge of the hazardous area and on pump islands, not only on the shop window.

How big should a no smoking sign be at a petrol station?

Usually at least 300 x 400 mm on pump islands and 400 x 600 mm or larger on the forecourt boundary and tanker points, so drivers register the rule before leaving the car. We print these on aluminium with a UV-resistant laminate and fix them to canopy columns or posts, clear of nozzles and turning vehicles.

How long does a no smoking sticker last on glass?

Indoors, away from direct sun, a cast vinyl sticker can last many years. On south or west-facing glass, cheap calendered vinyl often shrinks or fades within a year or two. Laminated cast vinyl lasts considerably longer in strong sun. Replace any sign whose red has turned pink, because a faded prohibition sign is easy to ignore.

Can a no smoking sign match a luxury interior?

Yes, through the material rather than the symbol. A second-surface print behind clear acrylic on brushed stand-offs, or a small, crisp vinyl at eye level, both suit hotel and restaurant interiors. We keep the red ring and bar unchanged, because a gold or grey version may look elegant but no longer reads as a prohibition.

Do you supply no smoking signs outside Dubai?

Yes. We make every sign in Ajman and install across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The site survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and for simple orders we can also deliver signs ready for your own maintenance team to fit.
