Street & Road Name Signs in the UAE

Street name signs that read in two scripts at night

Street name signs identify a road at its junctions, usually as a double-sided reflective blade on a post, with the name in Arabic and English and often a street number or sector code. We make them for developers handing over villa communities, compound owners replacing faded wall plates, free-zone and industrial plot operators with numbered internal roads, and universities naming their campus streets.

Most poor street signs fail on one of three things: a decorative font that cannot be read from a moving car, a name spelled two ways on neighbouring corners, or a blade turned to face the wrong street. None of these is a workshop fault; each is decided before anything is cut. That is why our designers set the longest name at full size first, our draftsmen lock the bilingual schedule, and only then do the blades go to the CNC router and the sheeting laminator.

Bayan Signage has run its own factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman since 2016, as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has served UAE clients for 15 years. Street signing is usually a quantity job of hundreds of matching blades, and keeping the blades, posts and powder coat under one roof is what keeps the last sign identical to the first.

Our process

How we produce street name signs in our Ajman factory

  1. Junction survey

We walk or drive every junction with your plan, noting the near-side corner for each approach and any trees, lamp posts or boundary walls that could hide a blade. The survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Bilingual name schedule

Our draftsmen build one schedule of every street name in Arabic and English, with numbers and abbreviations, and send it for your written approval. Nothing is cut until every spelling is signed off.

  3. Full-size layout of the longest name

Designers set the longest name at true size first. Its length fixes the blade length for the whole scheme, so every blade on a roundabout matches instead of arriving in three sizes.

  4. Blade cutting and sheeting

Blades are CNC-cut, faced on both sides with reflective sheeting and lettered with cut sheeting or matched overlay film, then checked against the approved schedule line by line.

  5. Posts and powder coat

Posts, brackets and finials are cut and welded in our metal shop and powder-coated to the community RAL colour, so posts and blades leave the factory as matched sets.

  6. Installation and photo schedule

Our crew sets each post, aligns each blade parallel to the street it names, and hands over a schedule listing every junction with its sign text and a photograph.

Specification

Street name sign specification

Our standard specification suits most community and industrial roads. Developers' design guides often adjust colours, post style and fonts, and every change is itemised on the quote.

Expert advice

Advice from our street signing team

Street signing goes wrong in the schedule more often than in the workshop. These are the points we settle with developers before production starts.

Lock every spelling once

Transliterated names drift: one corner says Al Khail, the next says Al Kheil, and delivery apps then send riders to the wrong place. We agree one spelling for every name, in Arabic and English, in a signed schedule, and we suggest the same list goes to your map designer, the address plates and the community app. One list used everywhere costs far less than reprinting a run of blades.

Name the street the blade runs along

A blade must sit parallel to the street it names. Turned the other way, it appears to name the cross street and sends visitors down the wrong road. On site we mark each blade's direction on the post before fixing, and at roundabouts we often sign two opposite corners so drivers on every approach see a name before they choose an exit.

Let the longest name set the size

At community road speeds, an English cap height of 75 to 125 mm reads from 20 to 50 m. A 20-character name at 100 mm needs a blade of about 1.4 m, so a scheme designed around a short sample name will not fit the long ones later. Size from the longest name, abbreviate only by agreed rules, and every blade stays the same length.

Keep decoration out of the letters

Developers want street signs to feel like part of the brand, and that is reasonable. Put the character into the post, the finial, the frame colour and a small logo, and keep the lettering plain. A decorative Arabic script that looks beautiful in a brochure is close to unreadable from a moving car at dusk, which is exactly when most visitors are searching.

Plan for the planting

Palms and hedges grow quickly in irrigated communities, and a blade that was clear at handover can vanish behind fronds within a year. We check the landscape drawings at the survey and place posts outside future canopy lines, and we recommend the facility team adds sign sightlines to its trimming schedule.

Pricing

Street name sign price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We price street signing from the junction count and the specification, not from a list. Send us the master plan, the street names and your design guide, and we will return an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours, with blades, posts, installation and approvals shown separately.

Number of junctions and blades

Most of the cost scales with posts and blades. A community with fifty junctions and two blades on each is mainly a quantity job, which keeps the cost per sign efficient.

Blade length and lettering

Longer names and taller letters need longer blades and more sheeting. Adding a street number or sector code to the same blade increases the size again.

Post style

A plain galvanised post is the most economical. Fluted, tapered or decorative posts with finials and shrouds add fabrication and finishing time to every post.

Sheeting grade

High intensity sheeting costs more than engineering grade, but it reads better in headlights and holds its brightness longer in UAE sun.

Ground conditions

Open ground takes simple footings. Finished paving needs base plates and careful coring, and buried services must be scanned before any excavation.

Design guide approvals

Master developers often ask for a sample post before the full run. It adds a step to the programme but avoids replacing a whole community's signs later.

Approvals

Street name signs on public and private roads

On public roads, street names are set by the authorities and the signs follow official specifications, so an owner cannot put up their own. In Dubai, the municipality and RTA are usually involved in naming and addressing, and buildings also carry Makani numbers; the other emirates run their own systems. Inside master communities, gated compounds, free zones and private campuses, the developer or free-zone authority normally approves both the names and the sign design.

We prepare the drawings, sign schedule and sample post that developers' design teams and free-zone authorities usually ask to see, and we keep the approved schedule on file for later phases and replacements. Requirements vary between communities and change over time, so we confirm what applies to your site before production begins.

FAQ

Street & Road Name Signs questions we are asked most

How much do street name signs cost in the UAE?

The cost depends mainly on the number of junctions, blade length, post style and ground conditions. Plain reflective blades on galvanised posts cost far less per junction than decorative posts with finials and logo caps. Send us the master plan, the street names and any design guide, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can I put up my own street name signs?

Not on public roads, where names and signs are set by the authorities. Inside private communities, compounds, industrial plots and campuses, the owner or master developer usually decides, sometimes with free-zone or municipality input. We confirm the current requirement for your site before any production starts.

What size should street name lettering be?

For community roads read from 20 to 50 m, English cap heights of about 75 to 125 mm are typical, with the Arabic at an equal visual size. Faster roads need larger letters. We size lettering from the real reading distance and the longest name, so every street name sign in the scheme matches.

Should street name signs be reflective?

Yes, in almost every case. Street signs are read after dark by delivery riders, taxi drivers and emergency crews, and reflective sheeting makes the name visible in headlights with no power supply. High intensity grade gives a good balance of cost, brightness and life on community roads.

How are Arabic and English arranged on a street name sign?

Usually on the same blade, either stacked with Arabic on top or side by side, depending on the design guide. Both scripts should look the same size from the road. We agree the layout and the spellings once and apply them to every sign in the community.

Street name blades or wall-mounted plates: which is better?

Post-mounted blades suit most community roads because they sit at the corner, above parked cars and planting, and read from both directions. Wall plates suit older neighbourhoods and narrow lanes with continuous boundary walls, but they hide easily behind vehicles and trees. Many schemes use blades at junctions and plates along long walls.

Do you install street name signs outside Dubai?

Yes. We install across all seven emirates from our factory in Ajman, including footings or base plates on finished paving. The site survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and we can phase installation to match handover of each community cluster.

Can you replace a damaged street sign to match the others?

Usually, yes. If we made the original, we work from the saved artwork and RAL colour. If another company made it, a photograph and measurements of a neighbouring sign let us match the blade profile, lettering and colour closely, and we make a sample for approval first.
