Desk Nameplates in the UAE

Desk name plates made to be handled every day

A desk name plate is a freestanding sign that tells a visitor who they are speaking to before anyone says a word. The usual forms are a solid acrylic wedge, a stainless or acrylic face slotted into a timber or aluminium base, a folded acrylic or aluminium tent for meeting tables and a holder with a changeable insert for service counters. Our buyers are managers fitting out offices, banks and government service centres with dozens of counter positions, clinics and companies ordering executive plates as gifts for promotions.

Unlike a door plate, a desk plate is knocked, slid and lifted daily, and read by someone sitting down. Weight, angle and footprint matter as much as finish. A face leaning back 10 to 20 degrees reads naturally from a chair; a light tent tips over when papers slide across a counter; gloss near a window reflects the sky into the visitor's eyes. We test reading angle and stability on samples in our Ajman workshop before running a full order.

Bayan Signage has worked from its factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman, since 2016, as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, with 15 years in the UAE. Desk plates are one of the smallest things we make, but they come from the same CNC, laser and finishing teams as our reception signs, so plates can match your office branding exactly.

Our process

How we make desk name plates in our Ajman factory

  1. Names, titles and desks

We collect each name and approved title in English and Arabic, plus the desk or counter type and where the plate will stand, so length and weight suit the real position.

  2. Proof of every plate

Each plate is drawn at true size and sent for checking. We ask every person to confirm their own line, because spreadsheets typed by others are the usual source of misspellings.

  3. Sample for angle and weight

For larger orders, one sample is made and placed on a real desk. We check reading angle from the visitor's chair and push it to test stability.

  4. Cutting and printing

Faces are laser-cut or CNC-routed, then laser or rotary engraved and paint-filled, UV printed, reverse printed or fitted with raised letters. Acrylic edges are polished and metal faces are protected with film until packing.

  5. Base finishing and assembly

Timber bases are routed, sealed and finished; metal bases are cut and finished. Faces are fitted, felt or silicone pads are added underneath and each plate is checked against its proof.

  6. Packing and delivery

Plates are wrapped and labelled by name and branch. Gift plates can be boxed individually. We deliver across all seven emirates and can place counter plates on site.

Expert advice

Advice from our nameplate workshop

Most of what makes a desk plate work is decided by where it will sit. These are the points we check before quoting.

Find the real spot on the desk

The best position is rarely dead centre. A monitor stand, phone and document tray usually take the middle, so the visitor's eye lands slightly to one side as they sit down. We test this with one person in the visitor's chair and a sample plate moved around the desk, then size the plate for that spot. A 250 mm plate often reads better than a 350 mm one squeezed in.

Size by distance, not by status

For a seated visitor 1 to 1.5 m away, 15 to 20 mm capitals read comfortably. At a counter where people stand 1 to 2 m back, use 25 to 30 mm. On a boardroom table read from 5 or 6 m, double-sided tents with about 40 mm text are the practical choice. A bigger plate for a more senior person does not make the name easier to read.

Keep it under 100 mm tall

Above about 100 mm a desk plate starts to feel like a barrier between two people across the desk, and it hides papers and screens. A low wedge or a face on a slim base keeps the conversation open. On a high reception counter the rule changes, because the plate sits above eye level for seated staff and must face outwards.

Treat titles with care

Titles such as Dr, Eng., HE or Sheikh carry real weight in the UAE, and placing or omitting one wrongly causes embarrassment, particularly on gifts. We set titles exactly as supplied and ask for the approved form of address in both languages before production. Arabic usually sits above or to the right, balanced by eye rather than by point size.

Pricing

Desk name plate price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote from your list of names, the style you choose and any packaging. Send the quantity, a sample name with title, your logo and a photo of the desk, and you receive an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Material combination

Acrylic alone is the most economical. Stainless faces on hardwood, raised letters or thick polished acrylic blocks add material and hand finishing.

Personalisation per piece

Every personalised name is its own proof and production run. Holders with printed inserts cost far less per position than individually made executive plates.

Logo and colour work

A one-colour printed logo is quick. Multi-colour print, metallic effects or raised laser-cut logos add steps to every plate.

Edge and base finishing

Polished acrylic edges, routed timber profiles and chamfered bases take more machine and polishing time than straight cuts.

Quantity

A branch network of identical holders shares one set-up. A single executive gift carries the whole set-up and proofing cost alone.

Packaging

Gift plates often need lined boxes, protective film and individual labels, which add cost and handling per piece.

Why companies choose Bayan Signage for desk name plates

Made in our own factory

Faces and bases are cut, printed and finished in Ajman, so we can match timber, metal and brand colours without outside suppliers.

Every name proofed

Each plate is proofed at true size in English and Arabic, and we ask people to confirm their own spelling and title.

Tested on a real desk

Samples are checked for reading angle and stability before larger orders, so plates read well and stay upright.

Matches your office signage

The team that makes your reception sign and door plates can make desk plates in the same font and finish.

Branch-wide orders

We produce and label plates by branch and position for banks, clinics and service centres across all seven emirates.

Itemised, honest quotes

Plates, logos, packaging and delivery are listed separately, usually within 24 hours, with no hidden extras.

FAQ

Desk Nameplates questions we are asked most

How much does a desk name plate cost in Dubai?

It depends on the material, base, printing method, logo work, quantity and packaging. Fifty identical counter holders cost much less per piece than one stainless executive plate on a hardwood base. Send the names, your logo and the style you like, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Which material is best for a desk name plate?

For most offices, solid acrylic with the name printed on the reverse is the best balance of looks, durability and cost. An engraved brass or stainless face on a timber base suits executive desks and gifts, because letters cut into the metal and paint-filled never rub off. Holders with printed inserts are best where people change often, such as service counters.

How long does a desk name plate order take?

We give you a realistic schedule with the quote, and confirm it once the proofs are approved. Larger branch orders and plates with hardwood bases or boxed gift packaging need more time than a few acrylic plates. Proof approval is often the slowest step, so having names and titles confirmed early keeps the programme short.

Can desk name plates be double-sided?

Yes. Tent plates and acrylic blocks can carry the name on both faces, which helps on meeting tables with people on both sides. On a personal desk, some clients put the name on the visitor side and a short message, such as a service promise, facing the staff member.

Can you match the plates to our office furniture?

Usually, yes. We work to a timber species and stain, a RAL colour or a metal finish sample from your fit-out. A small offcut or a photo with a reference object helps, because timber and metal look very different in photos taken under office lighting.

Can we change the name on an acrylic desk plate?

On a solid reverse-printed block, no; the whole plate has to be remade. If people change roles often, choose a design with a slot, sleeve or magnetic face, so only the name panel is replaced and the base stays on the desk.

Do you make executive name plates as gifts?

Yes. Executive desk plates are popular gifts for promotions, retirements and new offices, and requests rise around year-end and Ramadan and Eid. We can box each plate individually. If the gift has a date attached, confirming the name and title early protects the proofing time.

Can you deliver desk plates to branches across the UAE?

Yes. We pack and label plates by branch and counter position and deliver across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. For large networks, our team can also place counter plates on site.
