Laser Engraving for Signs and Plaques in Dubai, Sharjah & Ajman

Bayan Signage uses its own laser machines in Ajman to engrave reception panels, plaques, donor walls, timber signs and runs of labels for clients across the UAE. We test every new batch of material before the real job, proof every name from your spreadsheet and finish each piece by hand, so a panel of eighty names looks as even as one.

Laser-Engraved Signs in the UAE

Laser engraving for signs, plaques and detail work

Laser engraving uses a focused beam to remove a thin layer of material along the artwork, leaving text, logos or images set into the surface with no tool marks. It is different from laser cutting, which goes right through the sheet, and from rotary engraving with a spinning cutter. For signage it gives frosted white text in cast acrylic, warm burnt detail in timber, sharp two-tone lettering in engraving laminate and a permanent dark mark on stainless steel. Our buyers include schools, hospitals, hotels, offices and contractors.

The laser rewards good preparation and punishes bad. Two sheets of supposedly identical acrylic or plywood from different batches can engrave differently, so we run a small power and speed test grid on every new batch before the client's artwork goes on. Fine strokes under about 0.3 mm break up, large solid fills burn machine time and can engrave unevenly, and low-resolution logos come out fuzzy. Our designers check all of this on the proof, and our Ajman workshop finishes, fills and polishes each piece after it leaves the laser.

Bayan Signage has run its factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman, since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE for 15 years. The same laser cutters and CNC routers that cut our 3D letters engrave our plaques and labels, so we choose the right process for each piece rather than forcing everything through one machine.

Our process

How laser engraving works in our Ajman factory

  1. Artwork and data check

Our designers check vector files, stroke widths and solid areas, and import names or numbers from your spreadsheet. Logos taken from websites or messaging apps are redrawn before engraving.

  2. Proof of every piece

Each plaque, plate or label is proofed at true size. Donor walls and staff lists are sent as one document so names can be checked line by line.

  3. Material test grid

Before the real job, we engrave a small grid of power and speed settings on the actual batch of material and choose the setting that gives a clean, even result.

  4. Engraving and cutting

Pieces are nested on the sheet, engraved, then cut out on the same laser or on the CNC router, depending on material thickness and edge finish required.

  5. Fill, paint and polish

Engravings are paint-filled and wiped back, reverse engravings are back-painted, acrylic edges are polished and timber is sealed. Each piece is checked against its proof.

  6. Fixing and installation

We supply stand-offs, concealed studs, tape or rivets to suit the wall or equipment, and our installers fit larger panels and donor walls on site.

Specification

Laser engraving specification by material

Material choice decides how a laser-engraved sign looks and how long it lasts. This is how we specify the common ones.

MaterialOur standardUpgrade optionsWhy it matters
Cast acrylic3 to 10 mm, frosted engravingReverse engraving with back-paintCast acrylic engraves bright white; extruded acrylic engraves clearer and weaker.
Engraving laminate1.5 mm two-colour indoor gradeUV-stable grade for outdoor labelsThe core colour shows through, so no fill is needed.
TimberHardwood or quality plywood, sealedPaint-filled detail, oiled finishGrain changes depth; MDF smokes heavily and gives poor edges.
Stainless steelPermanent dark surface mark316 grade for coastal plantA laser mark is flat to the touch; it suits tags, not paint-filled grooves.

Expert advice

Advice from our laser workshop

Laser engraving looks simple in a video. These are the points that decide whether your job comes out crisp, on time and on budget.

Engrave the text, not the background

Machine time follows the engraved area, not the panel size. A 600 by 400 mm acrylic panel with one line of text engraves quickly; the same panel with a solid engraved background or a photograph may take hours and can show banding. Where a design calls for large solid areas, we suggest outlining them or reversing the design so only the text is engraved.

Never specify PVC

PVC releases chlorine-based fumes when lasered, which is harmful to people and corrodes the machine. It is not a matter of price; no responsible workshop should laser it. If a cheap quote mentions engraved PVC, ask what material is really being used. For low-cost engraved labels, two-colour laminate is the right substitute.

Keep strokes above 0.3 mm

Lasers hold detail other methods cannot, but readable is not the same as possible. Strokes thinner than about 0.3 mm break up, especially in timber where the grain varies. Arabic dots and diacritics need the same care. We check minimum stroke width on the proof and thicken hairlines slightly rather than let them disappear on the finished piece.

Ask for rotary engraving when you want depth in metal

A laser mark on stainless or brass is a permanent surface change, usually dark, not a groove deep enough to hold paint. It is perfect for serial plates and valve tags. If the design depends on visible, paint-filled depth, such as a classic brass nameplate, a cutter-engraved plate is the better process, and we will tell you so.

Keep the data file alive

Donor walls and staff boards grow. Because laser artwork stays digital, next year's names can match this year's exactly, but only if the file, font and settings are kept. We archive every variable-data job so additions engrave in the same position, depth and fill as the originals.

Pricing

Laser engraving price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote from your artwork and material. Send the design or a sketch, the size, the quantity and any spreadsheet of names, and you receive an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Engraved area

Machine time follows the area being engraved. Solid fills, photographs and textured backgrounds take far longer than line text.

Depth required

A light surface mark takes one pass. Deep engraving in acrylic or timber that you can feel takes several, multiplying time on every piece.

Material

Laminate and plywood are economical. Cast acrylic, hardwood, anodised plate and stainless cost more and some need masking.

Variable data

Every different name or number needs its own artwork. A clean spreadsheet cuts set-up time compared with typing from scanned lists.

Finishing after the laser

Paint fill, back-painting, edge polishing and sealing timber add hand work once the engraving itself is done.

Batch size

Identical pieces nested on one sheet are efficient. A single one-off piece carries the full set-up and proofing cost alone.

Approvals

Laser engraving standards for labels and accessible signs

Engraved labels for plant rooms, fire panels and electrical boards are usually made to the consultant's labelling specification and may be checked at handover. Colours, text heights and wording come from the project schedule, and requirements differ between consultants. We work from the approved schedule and confirm the current requirement before production.

Engraved room and wayfinding signs in public, education and healthcare buildings may fall under the Dubai Universal Design Code or similar guidance elsewhere, which can set contrast, character height and mounting position. Requirements depend on the building type, so we confirm what applies to your project before the layout is fixed.

Why Bayan Signage

Why clients choose Bayan Signage for laser engraving

Our own laser machines

Engraving, cutting, filling and polishing happen in our Ajman factory, with no outsourcing, and you can visit during production.

Tested on your material

A test grid on every new batch of material sets the right power and speed before your artwork goes on the machine.

Spreadsheet to finished piece

Names and numbers flow from your file to proof to engraving, which keeps long lists accurate and later additions consistent.

Right process, honestly

We recommend laser, CNC or cutter engraving by what the piece needs, and tell you when the laser is not the best tool.

Designers and installers

Our designers redraw artwork and check Arabic detail; our crews fit donor walls and large panels across all seven emirates.

FAQ

Laser-Engraved Signs questions we are asked most

How much does laser engraving cost in Dubai?

It depends on the engraved area, depth, material, variable data, finishing and batch size. A run of identical laminate labels is far cheaper per piece than one acrylic panel with a large engraved photograph. Send your artwork, size and quantity, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Can you laser engrave a logo on stainless steel?

Yes. A laser marks stainless as a permanent dark or tinted surface mark, ideal for tags, serial plates and products. It does not cut a deep groove, so for paint-filled lettering with visible depth we recommend rotary cutter engraving with paint fill instead.

What is reverse engraving on acrylic?

The artwork is engraved into the back of a clear acrylic sheet and painted from behind. From the front, the design appears inside the material behind a smooth glossy face. It suits receptions and plaques, because the front can be cleaned freely and the design cannot be scratched off.

How small can laser-engraved text be?

On acrylic, laminate or anodised aluminium, text of about 2 to 3 mm cap height engraves cleanly for labels read up close. Wall signs need much larger text, around 15 mm at 2 to 3 m. Timber is less precise because of the grain, so we keep detail larger on wood.

Can you engrave a long list of names from a spreadsheet?

Yes, and it is one of the strongest reasons to choose laser engraving. We lay your names into the agreed design, proof every panel, then engrave. Corrections and later additions are simple because the artwork stays digital, so next year's names match this year's.

Is laser engraving suitable for outdoor signs?

With the right material, yes. Anodised aluminium, stainless steel and UV-stable laminate perform well outdoors. Standard laminates and untreated timber age quickly in UAE sun, so we choose the material for the location rather than reusing an indoor specification outside.

What file should I send for laser engraving?

Vector files work best: AI, PDF, SVG, EPS or DXF, with text converted to outlines. For engraved photographs a high-resolution image is fine. Low-resolution logos from websites or messaging apps usually need redrawing, which our designers do as part of proofing.

Do you offer laser engraving outside Dubai?

Yes. All engraving is done in our Ajman factory, and we deliver and install across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The site survey for larger panels is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
