Door Nameplates in the UAE

Door name plates that work as a system

A door name plate identifies the room or the person behind a door, and on a busy floor it does real wayfinding work. Most plates we make are 150 to 300 mm wide and sit on the latch side, on the leaf or the wall beside the frame, carrying a room number, a name, a title and often an Arabic line. They suit law firms with twenty offices on one corridor, clinics where patients are sent to room 214, school administration blocks and business centres where tenants change every year.

One good plate is easy. Sixty good plates that share one font, one size, one height and one fixing method is where most fit-outs slip. We set the layout to the longest realistic name and title in both languages, choose a finish that will not glare under your corridor downlights and pick a fixing for each door type, including fire-rated doors that should not be drilled. Every plate is cut, printed and checked in our Ajman factory against a single approved schedule.

Bayan Signage has run its own factory at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman, since 2016 as the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE for 15 years. Door plates are usually part of a wider interior package for us, so the same team can match them to your reception sign, meeting room signs and desk plates.

Our process

How we make door name plates in our Ajman factory

  1. Door schedule and survey

We list every door with its number, occupant, door type and wall finish. On site we check glass, fire-rated and grooved doors, because each needs a different fixing. The survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Template at true size

Our designers build one template sized to the longest name in English and Arabic, then send a PDF of every plate at true size for line-by-line proofreading.

  3. Sample in the final material

One plate is cut in the chosen material for you to hold against a real door under your corridor lights. Glare and text size are settled here.

  4. Cutting and printing

Plates are CNC-routed or laser-cut, then UV printed, reverse printed or fitted with cut vinyl or raised laser-cut letters. Edges are polished or finished by hand before checking.

  5. Check and pack by floor

Every plate is checked against the approved schedule for spelling, numbering, finish and colour, then wrapped, packed by floor and labelled with its door number for the installers.

  6. Fitting to one line

Our installers mark one mounting height for the whole floor, degrease each surface and fix plates with tape, studs or screws to suit the door.

Expert advice

Advice from our interior signage team

These points come up on nearly every door plate order, and each one is cheaper to settle on a proof than on a finished batch.

Size for the longest name, not today's

A layout drawn around Ali will not hold Dr Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Mansoori, Consultant Cardiologist, and the plates for Ali and the cardiologist must look identical. We take the longest likely entry, in both languages, and size every plate to it. A 200 by 75 mm plate holds two lines comfortably; three lines plus a logo usually need 250 by 100 mm.

Put plates on the wall beside glass doors

On clear glass the plate is backlit by whatever sits in the room, so text disappears against a window or a bright screen. On the wall beside the latch side it stays readable and remains visible when the door is open. If it must go on the glass, we add a solid backing or a frosted manifestation panel behind the text.

Do not drill fire-rated doors

Screw holes can affect a fire door's certification. We bond plates on fire doors with an appropriate adhesive, or move them to the wall beside the frame, and we check with your fit-out consultant before the installers arrive. It is the single most common question from building managers during snagging.

Keep contrast honest

Silver text on brushed silver looks refined in a render and almost vanishes under real corridor downlights. Keep a clear tonal gap: dark text on a light plate, or light on dark. For clinics and public buildings, accessibility guidance may also set contrast expectations, which we check for the building type.

Choose sliders for people, fixed plates for rooms

Rooms do not move; people do. Make the room number and department a fixed, permanent plate, and put the occupant's name on a slider strip your team can print on a template we supply. A floor with frequent staff moves pays back the slider channel within the first year of reprints.

Pricing

Door name plate price in Dubai: what affects the cost

We quote from your door schedule. Send the number of doors, the names or room numbers, the material you prefer and a photo of a typical door, and you receive an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Quantity and repetition

Thirty plates sharing one template with different names cost much less each than six unique designs, because one set-up serves the whole run.

Plate material

Acrylic and aluminium are the most economical. Stainless, mirror finishes and layered acrylic add material cost and finishing time.

Text method

UV print and vinyl are the most economical. Raised laser-cut letters and layered acrylic take more machine time and hand assembly per plate.

Changeable inserts

Slider channels cost more on day one but avoid remaking plates every time a member of staff moves room.

Layers and backing

A single flat plate is simplest. Layered acrylic, back panels and stand-offs add parts and assembly.

Installation scope

A full floor in one visit is efficient. Scattered doors, occupied clinics after hours and drilling into stone add time.

Approvals

Door name plate rules: accessibility and landlord criteria

Door plates do not need a municipal permit, but they can fall under building guidance. The Dubai Universal Design Code and similar guidance in other emirates set expectations for contrast, character size and mounting position on certain room signs, depending on the building type. We confirm what applies to your project before the layout is fixed.

In managed towers, malls and free zones, the landlord's fit-out guide often specifies the size, finish and position of corridor-facing door plates, and those may need approval even when the plates inside your unit do not. Send us the fit-out guide with the door schedule and we design to it from the start.

FAQ

Door Nameplates questions we are asked most

How much does a door name plate cost in Dubai?

It depends on the material, size, text method, whether you need changeable inserts, and how many plates share one design. A floor of matching acrylic plates costs much less per plate than a few one-off stainless plates with raised letters. Send your door schedule and a photo of a typical door, and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Should a name plate go on the door or on the wall?

On the wall beside the latch side is usually better, especially for glass and fire-rated doors. A wall plate stays visible when the door is open, avoids drilling the door and lines up neatly along a corridor. Plates on the door leaf suit solid timber doors in villas and small offices.

At what height should door plates be mounted?

A common choice is a centreline around 1,400 to 1,600 mm above finished floor on the latch side. In public and healthcare buildings, accessibility guidance may set a tighter range, so we confirm it for the building. Whatever height is chosen, use it on every door.

Can we change names ourselves when staff move?

Yes, with a slider system. The plate carries a permanent header such as the room number, plus a clear window holding a printed strip. We supply a template so your team can print new strips in-house. Fixed printed or lettered plates must be remade when the name changes.

Which door plate material lasts best in a clinic?

Engraved brushed stainless, with paint-filled letters cut into the metal, lasts best where disinfectants are used daily, followed by raised laser-cut letters. Acrylic printed on its reverse also performs well, because the cleaning cloth never touches the ink. Surface-printed aluminium and applied vinyl wear fastest and suit low-traffic areas.

How long does a door plate order take?

The programme depends on the number of plates, the material and how quickly names are confirmed, so we give you a realistic schedule with the quote. Proofreading is often the slowest step, so we send every plate at true size in one PDF for checking.

Can you make door name plates in Arabic and English?

Yes. Most of our plates are bilingual. Names transliterated from Arabic have several valid spellings, so we ask each person to confirm their own preferred form before production, and we balance the two scripts so neither looks like an afterthought.

Do you fit door plates outside Dubai?

Yes. Our installers fit plates across all seven emirates from our Ajman factory, usually a whole floor in one visit. Occupied clinics and offices can be done early in the morning or after hours by arrangement.
