FAQStainless Steel Letters questions we are asked most
How much do stainless steel letters cost in Dubai?
Cost depends on grade, finish, letter height, total perimeter, lighting and access. A short brushed 304 name for a reception is a modest job; a long 316 mirror or PVD name on a high facade costs far more. Send your logo, the sizes and a site photo and we will send an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.
Will stainless steel letters rust in the UAE?
Correctly specified stainless will not rust through, but it can tea stain on the surface. Grade 304 stains sooner near the coast; 316 resists it far better. Stainless fixings, cleaning off iron contamination after fabrication and an occasional fresh-water rinse on coastal sites keep letters clean. Most rust spots we are asked about turn out to be surface contamination.
Is 316 stainless steel worth the extra cost?
Near the sea, yes. On the Palm, the marinas, beachfront roads and much of coastal Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, 316 noticeably slows staining, and pool decks and irrigation zones count as coastal for this purpose. Further inland and indoors, 304 performs well and saves money, so we recommend grade by location rather than always choosing the more expensive option.
What is the difference between fabricated and solid steel letters?
Fabricated letters are hollow boxes of 1.2 to 1.5 mm sheet with folded returns, suited to large and illuminated letters. Solid letters are laser cut from 3 to 10 mm plate and suit small text, numbers and plaques. Above roughly 300 mm, fabricated is usually lighter and more economical, and it is the only route if you want the letters lit.
Can stainless steel letters be illuminated?
Yes. Fabricated steel letters are often halo-lit, with LEDs lighting the wall behind, or front-lit through an acrylic face set into the steel. They need enough return depth to hold the modules, so lighting has to be decided before the design is finalised. Adding light to an unlit steel letter later usually means remaking it.
How long do stainless steel letters last?
Correct-grade stainless letters routinely give fifteen years or more on a facade, and indoors far longer. The wrong grade near the sea, skipped cleaning after fabrication or carbon steel fixings shorten that to a few years of stained appearance. Outdoor letters from our factory carry a 5-year warranty on LEDs, finish and structure.
How heavy are stainless steel letters, and can they go on cladding?
A fabricated 500 mm letter in 1.2 mm sheet typically weighs a few kilograms, while the same outline cut from 10 mm plate is several times heavier. On ACP or other cladding we do not rely on the skin; letters go onto a hidden aluminium or steel sub-frame fixed back to the structure, which we size at the survey.
How do I clean brushed stainless steel letters?
Wipe in the direction of the grain with a soft cloth and mild detergent, then rinse. On coastal sites, rinse with fresh water regularly to lift salt before it builds up. Avoid steel wool and chloride-based cleaners, which cause rust spots. Light tea staining usually comes off with a dedicated stainless cleaner, and small scuffs on brushed steel can be blended back by hand.
