Non-Illuminated 3D Letters in Dubai, Sharjah & Ajman

Bayan Signage makes non-illuminated 3D letters in acrylic, aluminium, stainless steel and brass for receptions, offices, villas, schools and daytime facades. Without LEDs, readability depends on contrast, depth and shadow, so we test finishes against your actual wall and set the stand-off for a clean shadow line before anything is cut in our Ajman factory.

Non-illuminated 3D letters: contrast, depth and shadow

Non-illuminated 3D letters are dimensional sign letters with no light source inside, made from solid acrylic, flat-cut or fabricated aluminium, stainless steel or brass. With no LEDs, drivers or cable routes they can be shallower, simpler and cheaper, with zero running cost. They suit businesses that work in daylight and spaces lit by their surroundings: offices, receptions, clinics with daytime hours, schools, warehouses, government buildings, villa walls and community entrances.

An unlit letter has nothing to hide behind. Grey letters on grey cladding vanish at a few metres; a 3 mm cut-out looks like a sticker from the street; midday sun overhead flattens a letter fixed tight to the wall. What makes the sign read is contrast between letter and wall, enough depth to catch light on the side, and a stand-off gap that throws a shadow. We test finishes against a sample of your wall at Alam Square, Industrial Area 2, Ajman before cutting.

Bayan Signage is the production arm of Bayan Advertising, which has worked in the UAE market for 15 years, and our Ajman factory has made dimensional letters since 2016. CNC routers and laser cutters handle acrylic, aluminium and stainless in-house, with powder coating and assembly in the same building. Most of our work comes from returning clients and referrals, from single reception logos to every branch of a retail group.

Our process

How we make non-illuminated 3D letters in our Ajman factory

  1. Survey and contrast check

We photograph the wall at the times people will see it, note sun direction and texture, and take a sample or colour reference of the surface. The survey is free in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.

  2. Material and depth proposal

Designers choose material, finish, depth and stand-off for the viewing distance, and show the sign on a photo of your wall in daylight, including its shadow.

  3. CNC routing or laser cutting

Acrylic, aluminium and stainless are cut in-house to ±0.1 mm. Larger letters are fabricated with folded returns so they gain depth without excessive weight.

  4. Finishing

Letters are powder-coated, sprayed, brushed or polished, and edges can be finished in a contrasting colour. Matt finishes are suggested where strong sun would cause glare.

  5. Studs, template and inspection

Studs or spacers are fitted, a full-size template is printed, and every letter is checked against the approved artwork for size, colour and edge quality before dispatch.

  6. Installation

Our crew drills and anchors to suit the wall, fits letters on studs or spacers and checks level and spacing. If spotlights are planned, fitting positions are agreed at the same visit.

Expert advice

Advice from our design team

Without light, every physical choice has to work harder. These are the points our designers check on every unlit sign.

Check contrast on the real wall

Silver letters on grey cladding, or beige letters on sand-coloured stone, disappear at a few metres however well they are made. A dark letter on light render reads at the usual 25 mm of height per 3 m of viewing distance; a metallic letter on a mid-grey wall may need 30 to 50 percent more height. We hold finish samples against your actual wall, not a render.

Use the stand-off to draw a shadow

Mounting letters 15 to 25 mm off a plain wall creates a shadow behind each one. In strong UAE sun, that shadow line is often what makes the sign readable from the side, and it costs very little. On heavily textured stone, a flush fix can look cleaner, because the shadow breaks up on the texture.

Give big letters real depth

A 3 mm flat-cut letter casts almost no shadow and reads like a sticker beyond a few metres. As a rule we make unlit letters about 5 to 10 percent of their height in depth: 20 to 30 mm on a 300 mm letter, 50 mm or more on a 600 mm letter. Above about 300 mm we switch from flat plate to fabricated letters to keep the weight sensible.

Run a conduit even if you never light it

We often suggest a conduit and a spare power point near an unlit sign during fit-out, even when the client is sure it will stay dark. It costs very little at that stage. If the business later opens into the evening, a pair of spotlights or a wall washer becomes a short, tidy job, instead of chasing walls or running surface cable across a finished facade.

Be honest about evening trade

If customers arrive after dark, unlit letters on the main fascia will cost you visits. A restaurant, pharmacy or gym that trades at night usually needs front-lit or halo-lit letters, with unlit letters reserved for secondary signs, receptions and daytime sites. We would rather tell you that now than see the sign replaced in a year.

Pricing

Non-illuminated 3D letter price in Dubai: what affects the cost

Unlit letters are usually the most economical 3D signs, but the range is wide. Send the logo, wall size and a photo, and we will return an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Material

Acrylic is the most economical, aluminium sits in the middle, and stainless steel, brass and PVD finishes cost the most in material and finishing.

Construction

Flat-cut letters are quick to produce. Fabricated letters cost more per letter but become better value at large sizes because they use less material.

Size and detail

Larger letters use more material, while fine text, logos with many parts and Arabic calligraphy take more cutting and finishing time.

Finish

Standard colours are quickest. Custom matches, two-tone faces and edges, and brushed, mirror or PVD metal add finishing steps.

External lighting

Spotlights or a wall washer add fittings and wiring, but usually cost less than lighting every letter from inside.

Installation

Ground-level interiors are simple. Height, glass or stone substrates and outdoor approvals add time and cost.

Approvals

Permits for non-illuminated 3D letters

Unlit outdoor letters are still signs, and usually need approval like lit ones: Dubai Municipality or the relevant free-zone authority such as DMCC, JAFZA or TECOM in Dubai, and the municipality in Sharjah and Ajman. Some communities prefer unlit signs on residential and heritage buildings, and villa name signs may need community or developer consent.

Indoor letters in offices, clinics and receptions normally need only landlord or building management approval. Our draftsmen prepare the drawings either route requires and check Arabic and English wording against your licence. Requirements vary by location and change over time, so we confirm them for your exact site at the survey.

FAQ

Non-Illuminated 3D Letters questions we are asked most

How much do non-illuminated 3D letters cost in Dubai?

It depends on material, size, construction, finish and installation. A painted acrylic reception logo is a small job; a large brushed stainless building name at height costs considerably more. Unlit letters are usually cheaper than lit letters of the same size. Send your logo, sizes and a photo for an itemised quote, usually within 24 hours.

Are non-illuminated letters cheaper than lit letters?

Usually, yes. They need no LEDs, drivers, translucent faces or electrical work, and they can be shallower and simpler to fabricate. Running and maintenance costs are close to zero. The saving is largest on small and medium signs; on very large signs, material and installation dominate the cost either way.

How can unlit 3D letters be seen at night?

With external lighting. Small LED spotlights, a linear wall washer or grazing lights above or below the sign light the letters and deepen their shadows. This is often cheaper and easier to maintain than internal illumination, and it suits stone walls, villa entrances and heritage buildings where a glowing face would look out of place.

What is the best material for unlit outdoor letters?

For long-term outdoor use, stainless steel and powder-coated aluminium are usually the best choices, because they hold their finish in UAE sun and heat. Acrylic works well in shade. Brass suits heritage and hospitality settings if you accept or manage tarnish. Foam and MDF letters belong indoors only.

How thick should non-illuminated 3D letters be?

For flat-cut metal, 3 to 6 mm suits small text and 8 to 10 mm suits medium letters. Solid acrylic letters are typically 10 to 30 mm. For letters over about 300 mm, fabricated letters 30 to 80 mm deep give better depth and shadow without excessive weight on the wall.

Can unlit letters be upgraded to illuminated later?

Usually not without remaking them, because lit letters need translucent faces or open backs, room for LEDs and cable routes. The practical upgrade is external lighting such as spotlights or a wall washer, which can be added to existing letters with little disruption, especially if conduit was planned at the start.

Do non-illuminated signs need a permit?

Outdoor signs usually need municipality, free-zone or landlord approval whether lit or unlit, though requirements can be lighter for unlit signs in some locations. Indoor signs typically need only landlord or building management approval. We confirm the current requirement for your site and prepare the drawings the submission needs.

How do I clean unlit 3D letters?

Wipe every few months with water and mild detergent on a soft cloth, and check the gap behind stand-off letters for dust or nests. On metal letters near the coast, rinse with fresh water regularly, more often in the windy months, to lift salt. Smooth finishes hold less dust than textured ones, which matters near desert roads.
